Besides a new barrel or getting a new gun, what can make your gun silent? Mine makes some weird clanging noise when i shoot.

I'm not sure really. I can recomend a good barrel that is also pretty quiet. Try the J&J ceramic barrel. It shoots real straight and is quiet. My marker makes a clinging noise also, it is just the bold moving so I don't think you could really do anything. You could try sticking in a rubber washer somewhere but that might just make a mess of things. Have someone else shoot your marker a couple times and stand back about 20ft. I did that one time and realized my gun is real quiet. Up close you gun sounds louder because it is right next to your head but from a distance it might be pretty quiet.

Barrels will only help so much. The markers that clang usually run on Co2 and because of the high-pressure in the marker they make loads of noise. A low-pressure running marker will make less noise.

On my Tippy, I put a piece of double sided foam tape on the rear bolt, and then a coat of oil on top of that to take the "stickiness" out of it. That foam tape quited my bolt slam significantly. I don't know your setup, but if you've got a Tippy, you could do that. It works well.

Thanks; I should have told you my setup. I do have a J&J Ceramic. My setup is: Spyder SE, J&J Ceramic, and a Boo-Yaah grip frame. I will be adding to this as time goes on though.

I have to disagree pretty strongly. At least on the Tippys...there's quite a few things you can do to quiet the gun. You can do things to the sear...change out the springs for dental rubber bands, put foam tape on the rear bolt, etc... It quiets my marker a LOT.
You just have to use some imagination, experiment, and have patience. I don't know much about the Spyders...but I know the Tippys...and you can do a lot.

I would have to argue that the autococker is not the quietest gun.
my friend has a wgp sto and my enigma is quieter than it is. the cocker is a good gun dont get me wrong just a little over priced.

Even the pro's have this problem. Ever see a silenced mp5 in action? The clanking the action makes is louder than the actual shot.
I just wanted to add to what some of u said before. You can never get a really silent gun, the fast movement of air is loud (that is why u hear thunder when lightning goes off). If u really want sound proofing then find some way to deflect the sound waves to an area where the other team can't hear it well. Position yourself so the cover u are using makes your sound reflect to your opponent from a different place, this does two things : 1: makes your opponent not notice YOU as much 2:Your opponent might think you are in another spot if u bounced your sound in the right direction.

Here's everything I've done to silence my M98. It works fairly well:
1) Put a piece of double sided foam tape on the front of the rear bolt. Spread a thin film of oil on the front of that tape to take out the "tackiness". This quiets the bolt slam significantly.
2) Thread a piece of rubber band through the sear spring. I thread it through twice, and then knotted it. This eliminates the "twang" of the sear spring.
3) Put a small piece of electrical tape in the little recess on the bottom of the rear bolt...where the sear "clicks". This takes out the distinctive "tap" of metal on metal.
4) Put a pice of electrical tape on the front of the sear. This eliminates the tap of the sear, against the pins.
5) Get a quiet barrel...either a Smart Parts All American, or a J&J.
6) Check with your local law enforcement (both city AND county) in regards to silencers. I just talked to the County Sheriff's office about a silencer for a paintball gun, and they said they didn't have a problem with it. My local field doesn't either. It's simply made out of PVC and foam. That's it. Too flimsy to be used on a real firearm. (And who said a paintball gun is a firearm? According to the Sheriff's office, they don't consider paintball guns firearms.)
That's everything I've done to silence my gun. Actually, I'm still fiddling with the silencer, because it only muffled the sound a little bit. I'm going to add a bigger piece of PVC to the end of the silencer I have now, to take care of the muzzle. We'll see how it works.
that homemade silencer sounds really cool, i think i will try

1.) cockers arn't expensive considering the hardware there packing.
2.) I built mine piece by piece so I know point 1 is true.
Ok comparing one gun to another in terms of sound isnt that good a determination. Guns even tho they may be the same differ from gun to gun. This is extremely true with the autococker because it's so customizable. I've never seen any two cockers that look the same in one place. Even on Sundays when there are about 50-120 people at the field (mutliple fields, 120 on one would be awesome but insane) with roughly 20 cockers not one of them is the same in my expieriences. Now on to sound. Two points to make.
1.) Sound is not the same all around the field.
One time a ref told me all he heard were the balls wizzing by when i fired. While i heard the air and the block movement.
2.) not all guns are alike.
For instance. no matter what I do to my gun and no matter how many people I've talked to my gun makes a distinct sound when the back block closes the bolt no other cocker makes that sound.
Truthfully if your really concerned about how quiet a gun is you've got more problems to worry about. If you gave me the choice between a quiet gun that had good accuracy and a loud gun that had pinpoint accuracy I'd take the loud one.
