What exactly causes a marker to chew through o-rings. What can be done to fix the problem.

Well, just from overall use over time can kill o-rings, but thats a given. Not oiling your gun can cause o-rings to get damaged. Also, Co2, especially liquid Co2, can eat away at o-rings. If you're using Co2, you can get your tank anti-siphoned, and make sure to oil your gun. Other than that, there shouldn't be any problems.
