It should actually work better with HPA, as long as your tank's output is high pressure (or around 800 psi).

It will work. I have an a5 with a response triggler and hp and it works awesome. It shoots a lot faster for a longer period of time. You just have to practice with it.

my 98custom w/ RT did not work w/ HPA. IT was an ACI Bulldog3 800psi output. The A5 may be different though. I would like to try a different HPA tank on my marker though just to be sure.

The A-5 was built to operate on HP, soooooo why wouldn't it work?

I would just like to point out that it was not HPA that it didn't work with. It was most likely the tank, as you yourself think.
I still say you should've tried it without the RT on there. I can't even see why the tank wouldn't work (even after sending it back to ACI).

Stay with CO2
Tippmann run at 800psi + RT
so you'll need to fill more often than co2 with a 12oz ...

That depends totally on the HPA tank size.

any gun made for co2 can be run on HPA regardless and you will see better performance...
maybe not for the older co2 drinking F/A's or whatnot, but i dont think ive seen anybody run those on HPA

it may work w/ HPA, it may have just been my gun. The tank was fine and worked flawlessly on my friends gun (not tippmann). Try someones tank first, then if it works good, get HPA. I just went back to CO2 because its easier to get filled, cheaper for all year pass to my field w/ CO2 vs. HPA, CO2 tanks are readily available and cheap making them easy to replace.
Its all preference though. If you are a serious paintballer go for it. It cant hurt. Even if the tank doesnt work, it still has a high resale value.
