I just went out and shot my m98 for the first time, and it sounded like a cannon. I have a J&J ceramics 14" barrel(supposedly known for its quietness). Could the temperature have been a factor(below 25 degrees), or is the gun just always extremely loud compared to other guns?

Thats odd that a ceramic is loud ive heard they are quiet. If you are looking for a new barrel from what ive heard the lapco bigshot is a good quiet and accurate

actually i have heard that the bigshot is one of the loudest barrels for the m98. But i'm not sure if its the ceramic that is loud, or it is just the gun itself, or even the temperature. I really don't know, thats why im askin :)

your model 98 could is loud with any barrel unless you tape up the bolt with teflon tape but i would not recommend this if u want to check out how to make it quiter go to http://www.m98center.com and click thw how to link it will tell you some ways of quiteing it down and some other cool things to do with a M98. also try oiling the M98 before using it the first time this might help.

im not really sure how the teflon tape would help the loudness of the gun, because it only gets loud with co2. I can **** it and shoot it without co2, and its fairly quiet, but that does me no good. I did oil it, but maybe i didnt oil it good enough. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
