Nope. Try a M98, Spyder or Piranha. I'd go with the Piranha.

What if you played several times before?

if you've never owned a paintball gun before, then impy isn't for you, you have to grease is and treat it right

Well, wait a minute there...
Double Digits, have you played before? Well, probably have, that's why you are researching 'guns.
So you've never owned a 'gun before?
Like many others, I started with a Spyder. A Compact 2k, to be exact.
Great beginner 'gun, very simple in design, maintenance, etc.
However, I started playing almost every Saturday, and it wasn't long until I needed a better performing 'gun.
I hopped up to a Minimag, 'Cocker, then decided I won't play as much, so sold it all off and set up a true LP Bob Long Millenium, I think I was running 275psi...I think, but way better than the stock 800+psi, right?
Anyway, I played again, and then I decided I'd go back into the sport, so I saved up and bought the Impulse.
Thinking back, I'm not too sure if I would've been able to handle the Impulse. I mean, right now, I'm not worried at all, I know how to grease a 'gun and take care of it...but really, if you're mature, have common sense, you should be fine with an Impulse.
It's definitely not a beginner 'gun, like everyone else said, most beginners start with Spyder's and such, but why not start with a nice 'gun? It'll save you money, that's for sure. I spent a LOT of money upgrading that Spyder, it's really black and white. I regret it, because with that money, I could've bought a stock 'Cocker which would've outperformed the Spyder, but then I did enjoy upgrading the 'gun, because that's a part of the fun in paintball.
If you think you'll be playing a good amount of paintball, don't mind spending the money on the electro, and think you're mature enough to handle it, I say go for it.
It's really up to you. Think long and hard about it, then make your decision.
What ever you do, be happy with your decision, and have fun!

So the Impulse would be okay for a 1st time gun owner? I usually have a lot of free time and I'm probably going to be paintballing about 2-4 times a month.

And the newer Impulses already come with a Delrin bolt already, right? And if I was to get Blade trigger I just replace it with the stock one? I don't need a new trigger frame or anything?

Definitely get the Impulse. I had only played twice before I got mine. I don't think they come with a delrin bolt, but they have a delrin valve.

Here's what I did:

1. Played once w/rental pro-carbine
2. bought pro-carbine
3.played again w/my pro-carbine (oops i play speedball against people with electros and cockers:paranoid: )
4. sold pro-carbine and some other stuff and bought Impulse:D :D :D

hmm, ive kinda narrowed it down to like a mag or an impulse, ive played 3 times with rental piranha's, they were pretty good guns, and if i got an impulse, i would treat that thing like a baby, but i dont wanna go out, spend 400 bucks (Canadian) on a piranha, when i can get an impulse for 700 bucks (canadian), and i think the impulse would be better in the long run. I dont really want an auto cocker, there are 2 many moving parts, and if it broke down, i wouldnt know what the hell to do, so its basiclly beetween a mag and an impulse, i would probablly get either of them used for round 400-500 bucks (canadian), because both the guns i want sell for bout 700 canadian new at badlands.

If I had the choice between a 'Mag and an Impulse, I'd definitely choose the Impulse.
Not that 'Mag's are bad 'guns, they're not. I had one myself...but I mean, come on...an electro versus non-electro. Yes, you can upgrade the 'Mag to electro...but Impulse is already electro.
It will tear up a 'Mag, especially with a FullFlow installed. :D

What's the difference between the valve and the bolt? :eyes: And what the heck is a solenoid? ( Spelling? )

Same here, played with Procarbines twice against Cockers, Bob Longs etc. :)

I was picking between a 'Cocker, Mag, and Impulse. Now it's between 'Cocker and Impulse.

Most likely gonna go with the Impulse. :D

Uh oh, paintball gun basics 101. Hehe.

The bolt is the thing that actually hits the ball with the air. The valve is what controls the air. The hammer, which is attached below the bolt hits the valve to let the air escape and feed it to the bolt to fire the gun.

For example...the valve is below the ball chamber, next to the valve is the hammer, and the bolt is above the hammer.

I'm sure others can give a better and more clear definition of the solenoid, but it's basically the brain of the 'gun on an electro. The Impulse is an electro-pneumatic 'gun, and the solenoid controls all of that, instead of having a physical trigger with a sear, etc.

'Cocker and Impulse? I was in that same situation...I chose Impulse, and am very very happy that I did. The Impulse isn't too much more than the 'Cocker, and it's an electro, you can't short stroke it, etc.

How do you like your Blade trigger?

joejoe

Excellent question...that has an EXCELLENT answer.

The blade trigger is...well...EXCELLENT. :D

It feels very nice, and trust me, I can RIP on this thing like there's no tomorrow. Especially with the VooDoo FullFlow adapter, it's like shooting full auto...no lie.

If you do decide to go with an Impulse, talk to FOM. You can e-mail him at fom@e-paintballoutlet.com

He has a package going on right now, that includes the FullFlow Adapter and the blade trigger, both installed, for $50 extra. Which is an EXCELLENT [here we go with that word again ;)] deal, considering the FullFlow itself is $40+ and the blade with trigger job is $30.

Oh, and to answer your previous question about the delrin bolts...the new Impulses do not come with delrin bolts, they come with delrin valves. If you wanted a delrin bolt, it will cost you $36 more.

If you don't have enough money to go all out, I'd at least get the blade and fullflow, because $50 is an awesome deal. You can buy other upgrades later.

I plan on buying a Freak barrel soon, as well as a delrin bolt, and some other things.

Good luck, feel free to ask any more questions.

I'f I got the Blade, I need a trigger job? Also, do you have a picture of it?

joejoe
10-28-2001, 08:56 PM
Nope, but if you get it from Fom, he'll put a VERY nice trigger job on it. Trust me. :D

You can find a pic of it in the Impulse pics thread...or you can wait for my pics that will be up this week. I'm getting my digital camera this week. :D

solenoid=solenoid valve--It is opened and closed by the circuit board using an electromagnet (when you pull the trigger)

Here is the question! Who is forking out the money? If the money's coming outta your pocket (and I mean you have a real job, where you earned the money!) Yeah! I think you are ready! You worked for what you earned, and you'll want to take care of your investment. You've set goals to save your money therefore I'd think you will put the same effort into learning how to maintain your marker.
However if it's given to you (you didn't work for it!) No ya ain't ready! Easy come easy go! Just another spoiled mommas child, that won't care how they tend to the details, and ultimately give the shop that sold the Impulses and the marker itself a undeserved bad rap!
These markers (in the right hands) when maintained properly can be Sweetness!
And too, (in the wrong hands) can be head, and heart achers!
