My brother was talking to a friend about paintball. They got on the subject of barrels and my brother's friend (We'll call him Bob) was talking about how his friend has an 18" barrel. My brother was telling him that really, barrel length does has an effect on accuracy and distance to a certain point, 12". But, Bob is not believing my brother and insisting that length does determine accuracy and distance because his friend's 18" barrel is more accurate than his 8.5" barrel (No crap, but he didnt listen about the 12" part).
Can you all list reasons why an 18" barrel is no more accurate than a 12" barrel?

Paint is a sphere, not a obvlong shaped metallic pojectile. Paint is also filled with liquid, where as a bullet is not.

They both get the paintball moving to the same speed, move it the same distance, and move it in the same direction

*As long as the paint matches they will shoot the same
*At a point, long barrels slow down paintballs, acually making it less accurate
thats all i can think of for now.

Paint-to-bore match isn't a major factor...
The reason? At some point, the ball is stabilized to the maximum extent and therefore, no further gaines will be made.
This will depend on gas source, ball weight, size, and material, humidity, temp, porting, hone, metal type, etc, but generall, 12"-14" seems ot be the max.

i think i got this from a webdog radio episode but barrels only have an "effective area" of about 8 inches. this is when the barrel actually guides the paintball. after that it just flies and it doesn't use the barrel.
