Yeah, how did you do it? Do you think it will work with a Flex 7 mask? I mean it isn't like paint where it will chip or something, right?

it is dyed... so it won't chip, scratch or rub off ;) I cannot tell ya how it will work on a spectra flex 7. It seems to e that the rubber on the flex 7 might be too sensitive to heat. Anyway, all you do is get a bog pot (one big enough to submerge your whole mask), fill it with water, add some RIT Dye (amount depends on how dark or light you want it), and boil for a few minutes. Be careful how long you boil it as some plastics might be more sensitive to heat than others. Also disassemble your mask completely and don not dye your face foam or lenses!
RIT dye is a wonderful thing. I have dyed delrin bolts, masks, hoppers, hopper lids, pretty much anything plastic... you just have to be careful about the heat tolerance each plastic has... unfortunately it's trial by error...

I guess if I wanted to give it a try I could make some tests on some of my kids' toys ... My daughter might actually appreciated a green Barbie.

it isn't really that bad, the only thing i have destroyed since i started dying (sounds funny) was a VL hopper lid... masks take a lot of heat to melt them, and it only takes a couple minutes to dye them. As for the barbies, my wife collects them and i have been very tempted to make an "alien" barbie with some green dye ;)

Sounds like someone found a new toy...
Got any Captain Kirk dolls?
Kidding...
That dye job looks very nice... Can you do White and make Ref masks outta old gogs?

Unfortunately you can go darker but not lighter. I would like to get a hold of a bone diablo mask, considering the goggle is all one piece, and white you could get some cool designs. The next step is to make multi colored masks.

If not dye you can always use paint to do details if you dont want the whole thing colored.
There are a lot of drawbacks to paint - but thats cheap paint. Talk to the guys in a paint store, find the right paint types for plastic and use that. I have used hi-temp automotive paint designed for engine manifolds to color other plastic items... that stuff worked great. I imagine that it would work well on a mask. Comes in about any color you could want. And it takes an act of God to get it to chip or wear off.

like i said the masks were yellow. you cannot dye the black masks. painting is also a bad idea since the masks are flexible the paint will crack and chip.

Bumper paint might work for a bit i think. But i dont think i'll be doing that anytime soon.
