In Norwood, MA, 30mins give or take from me, an outright ban on paintball got passed. You should have seen the WANKER backing the bill. "Paintball is a violent game which often comes hand in hand with serious injuries." BS YOU WANKER. He showed an electrical box with a few paint splats on it, and about a half mile away he pointed to a socer field with a game being played, spectators and all and says "one of these deadly pellets could fly over there and seriously injure someone or cause eye damage." Oh my god what a load of crap. I'm about to drive down there and wring this guys neck. The sad thing is, a store was opening in that town and the ban happened while he was in the process of opening up. The ban includes playing on private property. Flash back a minute and the advocate for the ban is showing quite possibly the most firearm-replicating gun you could dig up from a pro shop, and they are zooming in on it while telling about the deadly-ness of this sport.

Well, don't just whine about it on the net. I suggest you take it to them immediately. Prepare a petition and take it to court. There's no way they can ban paintball with its safe statistics.

For the record, I'd beat the living hell out of the guy who did this. I hate people who think they know what they're talking about, but don't.

I don't even play anymore. I'd write the letter but [I don't play anymore]. I just saw this on the news 5 minutes ago, I'm not going to draft a letter at 12 at night over something that doesn't really effect me. I'm just outraged at the stupidity.

Uh oh

Thats really close to my town, hopefully they dont get any ideas here.

Does the ban include taking out any local fields? Now I want to watch the news but its 2:38.

Well, it doesn't stop fields, just people that play on public land illegally.

Marina Mayor and City Council
211 Hillcrest Ave.
Marina, CA 93933
To Whom It May Concern:
SUBJECT: BREAKOUT PAINTBALL
It has come to my attention that someone has taken action to try and close down Breakout Paintball, a respectable paintball park in Marina. This person is spreading lies about the sport of paintball as well as slandering all who play it.
Despite any initial perceptions of paintball made by an uninformed outsider, paintball is a very safe sport. In fact, in a study done by Control Systems Incorporated, paintball is the safest sport one could participate in. Statistically, approximately one out of every three thousand paintballers will suffer an injury (defined as one which results in some degree of permanent impairment, or renders the injured person unable to effectively perform his regular duties or activities for at least one full day beyond the day of the injury), as opposed to a “safe” sport like golf, which will see one injury per thousand participants, or baseball, where one in four participants will be injured. This is accomplished by strict safety rules, including face and eye protection at all times, very stringent velocity control on the paintball projectiles, and player knowledge. Players respect the possibility of danger and know how to minimize that possibility, resulting in a very responsible group of people engaging in the sport of paintball.
Paintball is an excellent revenue generator. Paintball equipment is expensive, and often times paintball players are driven not only to be the best player on the field, but have the best equipment as well. This encourages a cycle of constantly upgrading paintball markers, equipment, etc, generating revenue for all involved. On top of the costs of upgrading and maintaining a paintball marker, there is the cost of actually going to the field and playing. There is usually a field fee associated with a paintball field, a fee which is nearly one hundred percent profit. Paintballs themselves also come at a high cost, and paintballers go through a lot of paintballs in a day of play. Overall, paintball is an outstanding business venture.
Although paintball markers often seem to be used as instruments of vandalism, the case is not of the paintball markers themselves, but the people using them. People who actually play paintball treat their markers as though it was a living, breathing person, not a piece of aluminum and steel. Paintball players become extremely attached to their markers, often times giving them names and using the name to refer to the marker. The players with this sort of attachment to their equipment will never be foolish enough to use them to vandalize other people’s property, as the price could be much too high—separation from one’s marker. Instead of attacking the local paintball establishments, I recommend creating legislation governing the sale of paintball markers and paintballs. Many sports stores or large department stores sell paintball equipment at low prices without age restrictions, where the problem arises. Any teenager can buy a paintball marker for less than $50 and use it improperly. I propose enforcing an age restriction of 18 years of age to buy a paintball marker or paintballs, not allowing non-paintball specific shops to sell the aforementioned goods, or both.
Please do not act without learning the facts about paintball and those who play it.
Sincerely,
Dave Calotta

my county has a ban on shooting any type of gun. including paintball. even on your own property! It blows. As foir paintball being a violent sport. Perhaps they should ban anything violent, laser tag, video games, hockey. Its a load of bull and why is the town so concern about paintball, do they have nothing else to do? Arggggh!:pissed:

I thought it was funny that he said how a paintball could fly over and injure someone playing soccer. Most soccer games someone walkes away w/ more bleeding than a pb player after a tourney.

"And my concern is that these aren't 10, 11, 12 year old kids, these are older kids with guns that can shoot 300-feet per second."

Reminds me of the old gun control debate about "assault weapons" and "cop killer" bullets. What is it with un educated people? Paintball is way safer than most normal sports such as football or bowling. You should write a good letter and give it to all the city council members and the mayor. Maybye you will get a break.

blah blah blah...

this thread is now pointless seeing as we all kno that a town has banned paintball, and we're not doing anything.
