I haven't been playing long, but I'm hooked and want to buy a marker. My choice would either be a Tippmann C-98 or a Phantom pump. I play woods not speedball. All of the people I have played with use semi's (mainly Tippmanns). So do I go with the status quo or take my own path with a pump and be different. Anyone who plays with a pump against semi's please give me your thoughts. Thanks.

well how much do you love to play? If your just starting out and want to learn the ropes, your better off with the tippy, but if your out there playing paintball for the pride of having to outsmart your opponit, then pump is the way to go. Also, pump play is CHEAP. the marker itself just doesn't seem priced right, its priced the same as a good semi, but preformance of pumps are steller. they hardly ever break and most don't need upgrades either. I can't explaine it all that well do to the fact i have to get off the comp but, zen and penguin could tell you allbout pumpin.

Hey, I've been in your shoes before. I started paintballing a year ago and began with semis (low quality semis). It took me a year but I did finally come to my senses and went pump. I did a lot of research and went straight to a phantom even though they cost close to $200 and many of my friends thought it was a waste. But I can truely admit that I don't regret it a bit. There are times when a semi would be nice, but I think I play better and even more aggressive with my phantom. I'm even beginning to earn some respect from the better semis I play with now.

yea i started with the phantom also and i still have it it is so accurate and i can definatly keep up with semis. also the auto trigger is pretty fast as well. Unbelievably accurate. i sugest getting the armson pro dot sight it works well with the phantom

since you're playing woods ball, you don't really need something that'll hurl walls of paint. of course, I'm a pretty die-hard stockgun fan, but that's just me ^_^
W/a grav-fed phantom, you can always autotrigger it (hold down the trigger and pump repeatedly, it'll shoot w/every pump action, sort of a quasi-semi auto), or you can just practice your aiming and take single shots. I'm a firm believer in pump play helping you to develop your skills as a player. If all of your friends are newbies, too, you won't be at such a disadvantage where pump play might sway you away from the game, so I'd say go for it.
One of the great things about phantoms are the absolute lack of necessary upgrades; they are well worth the pricetag

Tigershark Owner--->
Yeah dude, i play semis alot and i tend to whip em, Whip em good. Not always, like i have this freind jeff, who i slike really good strategicaly( Like a pump player ) and he used semi auto, witch means hes really good. I had a tigershark, and just bought a tornado cheap semi auto, now im looking at some serius costs, (PAINT) (co2)
With my pump i mayby used 300-350 shots in a full day.
My freind jeff uses aboute 400-500, AND he only gets like 250 Shots out of a 9oz.
It costs like 2.00 to refill 9oz, and 3.00 fo rlike 14oz so why refill 2 9s for 4, rather than buy 1 14 and refill for less.
Anyways i just wanted to say pumps rule.. Theyll teach you how to be sneeky, and use more teemwork, rather than shooting as much as 3 guys to make up for your lack of teamwork.

I have been playing for quite some time. When I started, pumps ruled the earth and semi's were really just catching on. I have played with a pump for many years, I also play semi but it is more rewarding to play pump. I usually play semi when a lot of my veteran player friends are on the field, but if it's a group of new players and me, out comes the pump. You learn a lot from using one, but unless you are ready the "learn the game" ----read as "take a pummeling"---- from time to time, then you should probably go down the semi path and get a pump when you are ready. It is really up to you, make a choice and go play. Just have fun, that is all that really counts. I know too many people that have a $1200 marker in their hand, shoot 1500 rounds a day, and ***** the whole time. Then I know stock class players that play with the semi guys, get shot up a lot when they DO get eliminated, and spend $40 all day. Nothing but smiles!!! You tell me which one sounds better? By the way, don't over look Palmers Pumps. They are ridiculously expensive, but worth the cost, as an alternative to a Phantom. Check out www.pumpplayers.com for more tips on guns to check out. Hope this helps.

I have been there bro, and let me tell you pumps are much better. I eat semis for breakfast with my heavily modified Kingman Hammer. They think "that guy shoots pump with 12 grams and 10 shot tubes" before the game. But during the game, the monster that is One Shot DeVries is Released. You hear shouts of Hit! Sniper! Find the sniper! Hit!. Pump has improved my game by 100x Play Pump! Pumpers Unite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:drop: :drop: :drop: :drop: :drop:

I myself would rather play Semi vs. Pump than pump vs. pump. It just makes the game more intresting. Of course with your lack of firepower you are gonna find your self in a tight spot sooner or later but....well that's where the guys on your team come in (can't play without a team can you?)
Also with pump vs. pump it's harder(for me) to hit the guy. I find when I play pump vs. pump once the "enemy" takes a shot he'll go back into his bunker and not come out as much. When your dualing it out with a Semi vs. Pump......the Semi seems to get over-confident. They relax. they tend to lean out a little more and get a little more careless. All it takes is one well aimed shot and they're gone. Learn to use Semi's fire power to your advantage. heheh maybe I'm just crazyy but for me....pump vs. semi is easier!

I totaly agree with Hawian dues post. hes totaly on spot with the carelessness. If realized that alot, and you CAN use it to ur advantige, in fact, if you are playing novice semi's then semi player tend to lkean out, or even stand up!!! without having any protectoin, they start thinking there in power, but what they dont realize it another pump could be somwhere else sniping him out!
So i just thought id agree with him.. and suppored his theary.

Why not go in between and get an autococker?
Hehehe
Anyway, i started with a semi and i play with alot of my friend's pumps when they want to use a better gun, it doesnt really bother me. I like pump play better in the way that it makes it more challenging and exciting.
