I heard someone talking about putting their tanks in the freezer if you are not going to use them in a while. What does that do and should I do it?

NO NO NO

I don't think sticking your tank in the freezer for an extneded period of time would be good for it. Especially if there is co2 still ini it.

The only time I know of to stick your co2 tank in the freezer/refrigerator is before you go and get it filled. When the tank is cold it is easier for them to fill it because they don't have to cool the tank before they fill it.

Be safe, don't put a full co2 tank in the freezer just in case. And don't leave an empty one in more than a couple hours, you just don't need to.

if you have co2 in the tank, your tank will explode since the co2 will expand

OK. Thanks for the help.

It probably saved my tank.

I'm pretty certain that wont make it explode, heat makes gas expand, cold makes it condense into liquid (i.e what the tank holds). So if anything, keeping it cool will keep it from exploding. I don't know about the freezer, but I keep my tank in the fridge and it seems to be ok.

Ok, ok, ok, I've heard this argument so many times I just want to dispel any rumors, ok? Cooling your CO2 tank down before filling it does NOTHING to get you more fill. CO2 tanks are filled by WEIGHT: 9oz, 12oz, whatever.

The guy filling your tank will empty it out first. Not to cool it down, but to make sure that there is no CO2 left in the tank. Because the tank is filled by weight, not pressure, you can't have any CO2 in it (weighing it down) before you start adding more, because then you can't know exactly how much total is in the tank.

As for putting your tank in your freezer between games, it won't cause the tank to explode or blow the burst disk or anything, because the cold will reduce the pressure in the tank. Keep that in mind if you're planning to just grab it out of the fridge and then go play.
