View Full Version : Piranha STS G2 is a Low End marker?

It might not have the sticker price of a Cocker or Angel... but I wouldn't call it low end as this forum has defined it.
Often you do get what you pay for, but in this case you get a lot more for your money.
I am very pleased with this markers performance. I didn't want to spend a lot of money just for the marker... I'ld rather buy extra paint and play more. I studied the marker options for a long time and thanks to this website - I think I got the best marker thats under 500.
Kudos to PBREVIEW!
This is my first post to this forum - but I am not a newbie player... Been playing for 12 years and remember fondly my first Rapide.
My first Semi was a brand new marker (at the time) called a "Black Knight" that did great until the reciever broke in half at the very top. Okay - maybe not great... in fact I hated it, but its the pilot not the plane that makes the difference.
I've had many markers since then, Automags and a Cocker... But they can be finicky. The Fish is about as flawless as it gets.

Its not any better than a TL plus, which is also a low end marker...

There's nothing wrong with most of the low end guns. But the higher end semi's and electros do have an advantage over them, esp if you're comparing them stock to stock.

I think that by saying Low End, Andrew meant the Less Expensive markers, or Entry Level marker, it definitely wasn't a slight to the quality of a particular brand. I also have a STS G2 and have found it to be Flaw Free, reliable and accurate.

I have an STS G2 and it rules! I love it, take it over a Spyder anyday. Got a 14" PMI Pursuit barrel to go on it.

i don't think the STS is a low end gun at all. Well it's supposed to be the "Spyder TL+ Killer" as stated by http://www.xpaintball.com. The STS is a very good gun at a really good price. I wouldn't say it is a TL+ killer though, hmmmmm i wonder why

Yeah Creek, that was in the "I'm so Poor" thread. Over here I own an STS G2 ... and why is TL posting about his Spyder in a Piranha thread??? I guess he's bored. Anyway ... I need to get my stick and go chase the neighbor's dog outta the yard. :D

i was just making a point that "low end markers" like the TL and the STS G2 are not really Low end..

Yesterday I took my fish out and we had a blast in a day of Rec-ball.
Two guns dominated. My STS-G2 Limited Edition, and a freakin Flatliner. The Flatliner is good. Real Good, but the Tippmann can't pour out the firepower like the Piranha can... so its not about the guns but the players skills and tactics.
Later me and the player with the flatliner took on everyone else and won. (The second time that is :D )
After the match I came home and stripped it all out and cleaned it and lubed it. Very Easy. While I was at it I changed the blue spring to the red spring and the difference was DRASTIC.
I'm going Flatliner hunting next saturday!

The Red Spring.
If you think you like the Piranha... put in the red spring.
Its like a Nitro Boost for your gun. More speedy, so you'll have to turn the velocity down... but the gun is much more responsive, faster rate of fire, and a bit more reliable. Not getting the occational double feed or burst fire. Yet to chop a ball with it. (been plinking with it all day)

Yeah they are. Blowback guns are low end. But what's wrong with low end is my question? Nothing, not a danm (purposely mispelt to evade language filter, danm I'm clever, lol) thing. Just because a marker is on the lower end when compared to some of the other ones out there does not mean it is a bad marker. You can still put shots across the field, where you want em, and fire pretty fast. But, by comparison, a blowback is low end. Stop looking at that as a bad word, a working piranha is still ten times better than a busted angel, and I've shot a lot of blowbacks, and for their price the performance is really awesome. Low end isnt a bad thing :)

my gun is sopposed trash (my raptor) and my m98 is sopsodedly way better that any be gun well nope
as soon as i tricked my raptor out it has been the best investment i ever made it is just as good as a mag in my standers and it fires faster than it should i needed to buy a 18vl hopper and now it is the best gun on my field even the top players love having me on their teams when we play rec and i have a reputation as The Camper Killer and as The Raptor (via my stealth and speed)

I gotta agree with Skelo... As you probably already know, I have a Spyder Shutter but hate it. I'd take an STS G2 over any (stock, TLplus84, stock) mechanical Spyder any day. More accurate (read as: better stock barrel), better ROF, low friction internals, etc...

Remember me mentioning the Red Spring?
One of the things I had going on in yesterdays playing was ball chopping. The Red Spring does make you gun hotter and quicker - but you really have two problems:
1. Ball Chopping is more likely.
2. You are using more air.
This mornings cleaning and testing have shown me the light. I went back to the Blue Spring and dialed it in more... it's easier to tune. With the Red I want to back it out more than I am able. (Talking turning the adjuster knob here... what your really doing is controlling the compression on the spring which effects who hard it pushes and how hard it is to compress again.)
Dye Boomstick, Regulator, Expansion Chamber, and a 12V loader and I'll have a perfectly competitive marker.
