hey guys, i need a little help. im doing a project on paintball, i have to study, observe and interview players inorder to find out more about my topic. and i can do 2 or more supporting topics. those two are going to be Misconceptions and Why Paintball is such a safe sport. the second one is easy, but i need help on the first one. i need some links to articles by politicans, parents and writers (or anyone that hasnt even played paintball) that i can use as examples. thanks in advance...

I think the biggest misconception is that paintball is unsafe. Either that or that dirty vandals and rednecks are the only ones that play paintball.

Biggest misconception, is that noobs have no idea that 75-80% of all paintball is played in the woods. Scenario games have had up to 3000 and more players at once. No major speedball tourney has come close to those numbers. Not to mention how many millions play in backlots and private fields.

I'm 43, am currently stationed in Iraq as I write this, and have been playing since 1996. So for SOME of us, that's partially true:D

The biggest misconception is anyone who knows you play paintball thinks they will automatically own you when they haven't played paintball ever.

What about the 2002 World Cup, didn't they have several thousand players there?

I dont consider that paintball personally. Paintball is played on Sup air and hyperball fields in my book. Opinions vary.

so if i get a paintball gun and get a bunch of friends together and go play in the woods, that is not paintball. that is just shooting paintball guns with friends in the woods.
your idea is pretty crappy.
Relevance: Big misconception is that if you play paintball, you are actually a sniper that rolls around int the woods.

Let me clarify a bit. When I think of paintball I think of sports. I dont consider woodsball a sport at all. I suppose I just typed it wrong. Its paintball anytime youre using a gun I suppose, but anytime I refer to paintball, playing in the woods isnt included in that.

Paintball is paintball. Where you play doesn't matter, why should it? Thanks to woodsball, the sport became popular. There was no such thing as speedball back in the beginning because most markers were stock class and there was no high ROF. In fact, most people called them guns to begin with, becuase by definition they are guns.
Woods is really big where I live because we have a lot of forrested areas on the island here. It would cost way more to set up indoor fields and setting up a small speedball course is just a waste when you can easily walk onto the nearest 100 acre parcel and play there.
woodsball==speedball==paintball, it's all the same. Woodsball is here to stay. So what if it makes things look more militant? What is that to you or anyone? The safety records speak for themselves and regardless of what anyone says I will play the way I want to, even if you are too afraid it might hurt the sport.

*Clapping*
Misconceptions (perhaps we should define whether they are inner or outer)
Inner (I'm not saying everyone has these this is my list make you own :) and I know they are more but I don't want to type that much)
1. Paintball is better when its just speedball or woodsball.
2. All scenario/big game players are wannabe militia
3. All tournies/speedballers cheat and bunker regardless of situation
4. You are either one or the other
5. Speedball is a sport while woodsball is a game (It is the same thing, a sport is a game with a physical aspect and competition both varieties quailfy)
6. Calling pb guns "markers" will reduce any bad image (if they hate it they will find a reason).
7. Pb guns aren't guns.
8. Paintball isn't dangerous.
Outer (many outer misconceptions can be summed up to these)
1. Paintball cannot be safe.
2. Paintballers can be categorized into one type of person (usually the violent punk image comes to mind; imagine their surpirse when I being 300+ pounds and generally amicable guy tell them I play).
Some of you may jump on #8 but I refuse to back down on it. Paintball is dangerous BUT we generally take the necessary precaustions to limit if not offset the dangers. Other sports are dangerous too and they try to offset their problems as well and not to the degree of success paintball has done. I'll be glad to defend all the others as well. SO...um...Grrr *trying really hard to keep a straight face*

Woodsball is here to stay.
I wouldnt be so sure. In my area the trend seems to be indoor fields, with many of the outdoor setups closing down. I wouldnt surprised if woods play ended up being a thing of the past in favor of indoor ball.
I meant the original post as a half way joke.

Woodsball is cheaper and easier to learn. It will always be the mainstay of recreation, in my opinion. Remember, you can set up an airball field outdoors, but you can't put a woods in a shopping mall. :D

Exactly. Its much cheaper to open an indoor field than to buy large tracts of land and prep it for a woods field, then clear areas out of it for hyperball. Plus, its going to be much more profitable to have a field that constantly profits from tournmaments coming through, in addition to rec players. Not to mention you are not affected by weather or lighting. I think thats why the trend is in favor of indoor fields right now.

Well your sorta right and wrong in a sense. True, Woodsball requires a lot of land, but generally the Land used for Woodsball is isolated and cheap. Not to mention clearing land can be done with a chainsaw, shovel, chain and pick-up. Im sure your right in the sense that high land value areas will probably lean more towards indoor. The indoor field in our area went out of buisness(TIP), I believe it was because they charged to much to try and cover their overhead. Surely there is a future for speedball, indoor or otherwise, as well as woodsball.
