I got some complaints to get out in the open.
I'm sick and tired of reading articles, stories, columns in the paintball mags by all the Higher Ups in the NPPL saying that in order for paintball to become more respected, more commercially viable, that the sport has to clean up it's act. Players have to stop cussing, cheating and act responsible before the spectators, they have to treat each other with respect ... blah blah blah ad nauseum.
Yet, the NPPL is either unwilling or unable to run a clean show at the World Cup.
I have friends who played on several teams in the novice and amateur divisions, and from what they've told me, the amount and excess of cheating that went on was 1,000 percent in the opposite direction of what the NPPL Higher Ups say they want and work for in all those articles.
In one game, an Am B team played the pro team AfterShock UK. The Am B team shot one Aftershock player in the mask, but the player was not removed from the game. Later, an Aftershock player was hit on the hopper, the AmB player that hit him called for a check, the ref only looked at one side of the hopper, even though spectators were yelling at him to check both sides, after the ref left, the player wiped his hopper, in plain view of the spectators.
In the novice finals, VIP, a team from Puerto Rico, which took first place, had people in spectator area calling out in Spainish where the other team's players were. One of their friends in the spectator area was using a cell phone with an ear piece to communicate with a player on the field. Complaints were filed with the Refs, but they didn't look into the allegations.
There was also a lot of talk about Refs helping out teams that they knew, which meant if you were a team that the refs didn't like, you probably got screwed by the people who are supposed to be unbiased, objective game officials.
I think that if you 're gonna have to shell out $1,000 in entry fees, Hundreds to buy paint, hotel accomodations, etc, then the NPPL should go out of it's way to ensure that the tournament is clean, unbiased and fair. Otherwise it's the biggest money making scam in Sports History.
