The X-Wind is the old style fan. The Vortex is the new and improved fan. The Vortex has a longer switch that is a 3 way switch. In the old fan you had to turn the battery around to reverse the fan. In the new fan you just put the switch into the other position to reverse the fan direction. Some people like the fan to suck and some like it to blow! Sorry, cheep joke. I also recall hearing that the battery door does not come off so you dont loose it.
