Hey this is awesome, if someone could get this going. I don't know how efficient it would be though.
here it is: http://www.gizmology.net/pbm.htm

They shouldn't....It's not released by a sear, and doesnt really use their dump chamber tehcnology.
Idea to make it more efficient: Run a reg into the dump chamber, at some arbitrary low pressure (say 80 psi, somehting easy for the spring to hold back) then use the solenoid to dump higher pressure air into the chamber.
The main problem is that your solenoid is what is sourcing air for the shot, as well as the actuation. I don't see it happening if the dump chamber has to start evacuated.

acutally, the design builds pressure and chambers the ball during the firing cycle... the problem migh then be an annoying delay from when you press the trigger to when it actaully fires, but its a pretty cool concept now that I see it in my mind's eye.
The problem is getting the dump chamber volume exactly right...me, I'd do it with -PV=E and go for 70% effiicency on the flow passages.

Yes, but wouldn't that starve the gun during sustained fire at a high rate?

it does look it will be starved for air, and even if the "Dwell" is set high enough, it looks like it may be too slow to fire (i guess there would be a lag, even though only a couple nanoseconds, should still be noticeable).
On the lighter side, who needs 20BPS anyway?:D

The new ICD FreeStyle works very similar to that I believe.
Except it isn't returned by a spring, and totally kicks arse.

lol, whoa
sry for the double post but reading that over again I just realized that's almost exactly how an Mag works. Exept that would be a really horrible mag becuase the bolt wouldn't cut off the air. So it's basically a really ineffecient Mag with a solinoid on it... mmm hmmm
