I have a aftermarket barrel for my 98 custom but tell me what u would think of this...welding the first holes on the stock barrel shut the ones that are right in the middle...most guns need 8 inches or better of barrel b4 porting i believe so if you welded that the ball would travel further down the barrel with out losing as much gas then marking the top of the barrel when it is in the gun and taking sand paper and putting it on a piece of dowel and sand just the top portion of the barrel giving it the flatline effect? has anyone ever tried this...dunno just a crazy idea....

well, you'd need to sand the bottom portion for a flatline effect, but it wouldn't do much. As for the porting you could just wrap electrical tape around the holes.

He was right on sanding the top, if you sand the bottom it will make the ball spin forward dropping it to the ground,
if you sand the top it will spin it back and make it want to climb,
I am not sure at what rate it will but it will spin it, you could try running a strip of tape on it, to see what it does without killing the barrel then you could do it to the barrel,
I to have thought of doing things with the stock one, I just have to find the time ;)

sanding should make the barrel smoother, and you want the smoother part to be on bottom. Therefore it seems to me you would want to sand the bottom.

Just polish it.

Sanding would make it smoother on like wood or if you used ultra fine emery cloth, but the only way I know of making metal smooth for like barrels, is polish!
so I was under the impression he was trying to make a drag, not polish it
so if he was trying to make it drag.. it would be at the top.
but if it was like you say and he was trying to make it smoother then it would have to be at the bottom :)
that should make it right no matter what way they where thinking :)

I was kinda wondering when I wrote that whether he meant to make is smooth by sanding. It seemed wierd but I might have been wrong.
You could always sandblast the barrel and smooth and polish the bottom for a flatline effect.
