What do you guys think of fields that force you to use their paint, and then overcharge for it?
Would you take the risk of trying to match the paint and bring in your own?
I realize that the field operators have to make money and such, but I can't help in feeling raped every time I go and have to buy their paint since I bought my gun there and got a field membership.
The crappy thing is, their paint isn't that good either.
Oh and I think this field is part owned by Brass Eagle if that makes any difference in the decision. Luckily the field paint isn't Brass Eagle.

FalconMan,
Those kind of replies are not constructive, If I had the funds and money to blow I'd build my own field.
I like the field I'm at.
I don't like getting ripped off on paint.
I'd be happy to pay the price they ask, were I getting at least a decent paintball.
And by decent, I basically mean round.
Last bag I bought maybe one out of five were actually round, and the rest were oblong and every other shape conceivable.
Otherwise, the field is great.

I will not play at a field that forces you to use their paint.
There are a few feilds that I have access too, and only 2 of them are FPO, so I just don't go their.
And no one else does too, and they are probably going out of buisness soon. Everyone I have talked to about it agrees with me.
Plus alot of times we play Outlaw ball.

Well, luckily none of the fields I frequent have FPO rules that extend beyond people renting guns, so I can bring my own paint. This past weekend, I was playing at a field, and there were atleast twenty people with rented guns; all of whom had to use field paint, at the rate of $5 per hundred balls. Sounds reasonable at first until you think for about half a second that comes out to be $100 a case. Just about every game we played that day they had this stupid "regeneration" rule. Yes, I can understand how that can make newbies a little more bold and add to their enjoyment, but to me it just meant that I was raking up about 5 - 10 kills a game and often against the same people, I was running out of paint in over half the games (I've now bought a 6 pack harness :) ). Also, they were renting 3-pack harnesses for something like $15. I really think they just wanted everyone spending a lot more money than we needed to. I mean, they were even doing regenerations on Speedball. On the other hand, they were selling really good paint, such as RPS Premium Marbs and Allstars. I didn't feel ripped off, but most of the guys I know who have been there before say they don't usually play with the regen rule, so I think they were just milking the rentals.
All I can say is, you obviously liked it enough to become a member knowing what they charge for paint, so stick with them and have fun, see if the owners wouldn't mind special ordering whatever paint you like. Finally, if they just changed their policy and you had paid to be a member earlier than this you should probably talk to the field owner about it. That's my only advice.

You're right, I joined full well knowing you have to use field paint only. I've done some thinking and talking with a buddy of mine who goes and he brought up a few good points....
1. I get in free with the membership (Which was included when I bought the gun there. the gun was marked up a bit though so I was still paying for it)
2. CO2 and Air fills are free.
3. It's an excellent place to play.
In essence if I didn't buy their paint, I'd be playing there every weekend without them seeing any of my money excepting the profit they made when I bought my gun... and the occasional hot dog, so I shouldn't complain.
I just wish you had a better idea of what kind of paint you are getting. Sometimes it may be a bag of RPS which is fairly decent, but sometimes you get complete crap. It's hit or miss.
I really probably should talk to the guy.
