View Full Version : PDS acting twitchy

I recently took my gun apart to install a forward ASA and accidentally yanked a PDS wire off the on/off switch. No problem, I took it to my local shop and had them fix it for 15 bucks. While I was there I also asked them to fix a pinched wire on the sensor eye.

When I got it back they had done a good re-soldering job, but instead of using shrink-tubing it looks like they just used hot glue or something to cover the contacts (a little messy but it looked like it worked).

I was cool with this until I went to the field to shoot and the gun was acting like it was seeing no paint even when there was definitely paint in the breech. It was also only doing this some of the time until I broke one in the breech and then it stayed like this permanently. I was very confused by this because usually when I get the eyes all gunked up it acts like there's permanently paint in the breech not the other way around.

My question is what should I be looking for. Should I be looking for a poorly soldered contact or perhaps a spot where the wire is contacting the metal frame and causing a short? Also since I'm getting tired of dealing with it I was considering getting a bonebrake wiring harness but I was wondering if I had to know soldering to install it. I'm guessing that the problem is with the sensor eye (that's the clear one right?) and not the transmitter.

your eye itself may just be dirty, take the covers off and look at it, look for fingerprints etc just to be on the safe side. Impya has a Bonebrake harness and absolutely loves it, if you do have to solder anything it would only be the 2 wires to the solenoid

There is a new problem that I have seen in the latest round of 2K's w/ PDS. Try this little test and let me know how things go.

Load a ball into the marker and then point it to the ground. If the marker fires I am betting that your bolt is a hair to short and it is allowing the ball to roll back behind the PDS and in turn the marker doesnt see the paint so it wont fire.

If the marker fires everytime that you have the barrel pointed to the ground you will need to contact ICD and see if they will exchange the bolt for you. Another option is placing a oring behind the hammer assembly to keep the bolt pressed forward forcing the ball to cover the eyes.

Companies should offer A4 type bolt...that would work out great for problems like SP mentioned. I know the ball sets up nicer with the A4 bolt on my speed instead of the stock speed bolt.

could this increase chop on a non-PDS gun?

I dont think it would.

Well, The thing is, my bolt seems to allow balls to rock fairly far back. This wouldn't be an issue, except that the next ball in the stack is then pressing down on the front side of the ball in the breech. So when I fire, it can actually pop a ball out of my feedneck when I don't have the hopper one. It's like extreme blow-back... only not blowback.

Is this even close to normal?

Well I inspected my PDS wires a little closer and I'm pretty sure my problem was in the sensor wire being pinched. Electrical tape has the problem fixed and my gun is back to firing insane rates without chopping.

As for shootpaint's test, I tried it and noticed that the ball did roll around in the chamber a little bit. Whenever the gun was pointed at the ground the gun would fire but when I pointed the gun straight up, (only one ball loaded) the gun would not fire because the ball rolled back behind the sensor. I'm honestly not that worried about it since I've used my gun in several tourneys already and if the extra space in the breech was going to be a problem I think it would have caused one by now. I also noticed that when I had balls in the stack the round in the breech was held stable in front of the eye.
