hi all, I'm new to the sport the three markers I'm considering, that are in my price range are the sentinel (the cheapest I think xts), the tippman 98c, and the spyder tlx. Pros and cons plz. I don't know if it makes a difference or not but I'm fimilar with firearms so i can figure out how to maintain it / used to semi-auto and have a fast trigger finger. Oh yeah, I'll be playing woodsball to start but once we get a team may be in tournaments.

none of them, spyder imagine. its a great starter gun and it's electro so it will give you the ROF you need. its also cheaper than the tippmann 98 so it should be in your price range. Its also easily upgradable and you could use it when you start out in some local tournies and stuff like that. its also a good speedball gun.

If you plan on buying a new marker once you start entering in tourneys, Imagine. Since you have some maintenance experience and you want to start entering tourneys, stay away from the 98c.
If you want a marker that can still be in your price range but you can make it to be tournament level, so you won't have to buy a new marker down the road, check out a used automag on the trading forums or eBay.

the tippmann is the most upgradeable out of the lower priced guns.just make sure you get the 98 custom. there extremely durable. when i was new to the sport that was my first gun and after i played i went home and sprayed it off with the water hose or put it in the dishwasher. but dont spend to much if you have never really played, because you might not know if you really like it or not. you could also just shoot the guns that you are looking at and see which on that you like best. i hope my advice helped you, and i hope you get what you want. BEST OF LUCK!

Spyders are just as upgradeable, if not more. Most of Tippmann's "upgrades" are just "sniper"/woodsball stuff, and he said he was planning on playing tournaments in the future. Spyders have a wider selection of companies to choose from when buying aftermarket parts.

im not all that familiar with the sentinal but i will give u the pros and cons of the spider and the tippmann
spider
pro's:
electronic can get up to 13 bps (shots per second)
cheap
pretty easy to use
cons:
not nearly as durable as the 98
not black so it will stand out in woodsball
have to dish out another 50 dollars for a revvi or a reloader
not as upgradable as 98 but close
model 98
pros
i no sombody who submerged his compleatly in salt water and it still worked fine. but i dont suggest trying it
very upgradable
can shoot at a much higher volocity then spider i got mine up to 370 fps outch just dont shoot anyone at that velocity.
easy matinence
cons
easy to lose the anti double ball when ur taking it apart
can only shoot like 3 to 4 bps stock
not as intimidating as an electro
conclusion
get a model 98 with a good barrel mine had a boomstick and a double trigger and it kicked. i never had any problems with it either.

Sorry to bring ya down man, but what te hell are you talking about? The spyder is way more customizable than the Tippy...you know it can be built from all aftermarket parts. Just because it's called the 98 custom and Tippmann says its the most customizable marker, doesnt mean it is. Go do some research, the spyder is way more custamizable. Didnt mean to flame, just point out and correct.

The difference in maintancence between the Spyder and the Tippmann is essentially the same. Both should be oiled every week or so.
As for the velocity, I'm sure the Spyder would be capable of that if you turned it up that high. But that is certainly not a pro, when would you even use that anyway :eyes:
You forgot to mention the Spyder is much more compact than the tippy. And the Tippy can reach higher than 4bps stock fine...if you can pull that fast. Most Spyder users, even with the ESP frame, will still only shoot 5-6ish bps at first. It takes a trained finger to get to 13bps.
You don't have to get an agitated loader at first, as long as it's vert feed. Most newbs won't outshoot a regular hopper at first. (Again, this is assuming it's a fully vert feed)
As for upgrade/customization, read my previous post.

Go for the spyder, i started with a spyder and i thought it was rad. They are both low matianence but you should learn how to clean it easily.

correct. the spyder is the second most upgradable/customizable marker in existance, second only to the autococker. anyone who argues this fact should be ignored.
