Here ya go. Well our tournament went pretty well for Team Frog today. This tourney took place just east of Tampa, FL and was 4 Man Novice. When we first arrived, we realized we had our work cut out for us. Most of the people there knew the refs at the field and a lot had high-end guns like Cockers and Impulses; however there were some people with Bruizers. Our team had 3 Spyders, 1 Pirahna, and 1 GT-2000 (me). Other than getting ripped off for PMI Premium Paint, the tourney wasn't really that expensive. Now for the action.
Other than having most of our team chrono hot at first, the day started pretty well. We were the first team to play, and, although we didnt show it, most of us were nervous. We were assigned to play in a field consisting of mostly wooden bunkers and a couple of small valleys and hills to take cover in/behind. We were up against mostly Bruizers and i think Milleniums. The match starts and we strategized to rush, but not too hard. We all took cover behind bunkers and the shooting began. My friend and I were stuck behind one bunker while our other teammates each had one. I eliminated an opposing guy after he continuously kept sticking his head over the top of his bunker. One of our guys were taken out next. Then came a call that was close but still should have been argued. A member of the other team advanced to a nearby bunker (with the flag) and rushed our guy behind a bunker. Our guy marked the enemy first and was then marked after the enemy was out. It was extremely close, and I saw what happened because I too hit the other man a couple of times. The ref came over and called my friend out, and i thought, because my friend didnt speak up, that it was a "mutual marking." Afterwards he told me that he shot the other guy first, and i told him he should have let me know so i could have talked to the ref. I have to say the reffing wasnt exactly perfect (another team told me later that one of their guys was called out after he leaned up against a bunker and got paint on him). Back our game, the flag was now dropped. While we were preoccupied with another enemy player, one of their guys picked up the flag and positioned it in our base and it was over. We lost.
Game 2. We saw the Cockers and Impulses and thought we were dead meat from the start. We played in the same field and owned them :). Two of their players eliminated were gogged and only I got out (ref said that the paint sprayed on my hopper was enought to call me out :( Shows u its not the gun, its the player and his skill. We celebrated a little because we didn't come in last place...we would actually play a 3rd game.
Game 3. We played on the same field again..however we did get the side we wanted. This game was extremely slow paced. Both of our teams were slow advancing. They managed to eliminate one of our guys first and take the flag, although he couldnt move because we had him cornered behind a bunker. We got one of their guys, so now its 3 x 3. Next, our player gets gogged and its 3x2. I managed to get in position to take out the player with the flag, only to hear the whistle that ends the round 3 seconds before i was about to charge him. We lost.
We ended up 4th out of 7 teams. Although we were hyped up to get at least 3rd, we were glad that we didnt end up dead last. It was a great experience (although i did have a persistant leak) and our team was satisfied with the outcome.
P.S. Muck, im ready to play at Hi-Tec soon...do u think a week and a half from now would be too early for you to get started again. Its just a good time for me because spring break starts a week from now. If not, give me a date of a weekend in the near future when u think would be best.
