I'm not too new to paintball, but I recently bought a 98c and I need to know what upgrades are the most important. I'm was thinking about the flatline barrel, but I'm not really sure if I should get any other upgrades before I get it. Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't get a Flatline, I would get a Proggressive or another cheaper barrel. You may also want an aggitated hopper, a Reloader would be good. Click the link below for upgrades.

First thing I would do is do something with that foregrip, they drive me nuts. I don't know if you can get a replacement or what, at the very least just lose it and use the bottom line to put your other hand on. But that's more if you play airball...if you play woods it doesn't really matter I guess.

Then a regulator, something like a Bob Long Torpedo is relatively cheap and will get the job done. The absolute best co2 reg is the Palmers Stabalizer, but it's a bit pricier.

If you want better speed, E-grip. Don't get a RT, if you ever want to play tourneys you're screwed, they're tourney illegal.

Then a new barrel like a Smart Parts Progressive, Teardrop, J&J Ceramic, Lapco Bigshot, CP 1 Piece, Dye Xcel, etc.

A 2x trigger would be nice somewhere in there as well.

Just do yourself a favor and A. Don't blow a $100 on a Flatline, and B. Don't get sniper upgrades unless you play milsim or something.

Personally I prefer the Freak barrel system or the Empire 10 piece. It's cheaper and better.

Don't get a barrel kit for a model 98 cuz its just not worth it. and don't get a flatline get somthing like a CP 1 piece ,a Progressive or an Excel they're all great barrels, then I'd get an Empire Reloader, then a double trigger, and thats all the necessary upgrades you really need to have a good model 98. of course you could always do a few mods in the stickies..most of them are free...and almost all of them I know cost almsot nothing compared to everything else in paintball

you shouldn't buy a flatline i hear there kinda useless if you play speedball.....but if you play scenario games THATS a different story.....buy a LAPCO or a teardrop or a boomstick those are all nice:)

Okay, I know I'm not getting the flatline now, but the question I have is which or what kind of barrel should I purchase? The only paintball I play is woodsball. The only thing I really care about is the accuracy of the barrel. Thanks for all of the help.

As for length, anything after 8-10" just increases drag, so the only reason you'd get a barrel longer than that is for pushing the brush around and the like. If you do that a lot, look into the 14-16" barrels, if you like a smaller one and don't care about pushing stuff around, 10-12".

As for the accuracy, if the barrel is of good quality, well-honed, and big enough bore for the paintball, then in general they all will be the same. Look for bores around the .690 range, it's OK to have a bigger bore barrel than paintball, but it can get messy if you have too small of a bore barrel. Better to be safe than sorry, right?

As for the actual barrel, any of the barrels made by Smart Parts and Dye are going to be good, but they do also have some of the pricier ones, and in most cases you're not paying for any additional performance. There are a few others worth mentioning, refer to my earlier post for them. They all will pretty much have the same performance, like I said, as long as it's a trusted and proven name, so just buy based on whether or not wherever you're buying it from has the right threading for your marker and the bore size and color you want in stock.

If you were originally going to get a flatline and spend $120 then buy a Freak fo $99

They suck no matter where you're playing with them.

Honestly, a CP 1 peice would be your best bet.

Experiment for yourself. There is "always" some one at the field with an upgraded tippman 98. Most say that if they were to do it again they'd start with an A-5.

1. Make your own thread.
2. Dont post in someone elses thread about your own interests when he's asking for help.

Sorry, As for sharks:

Please, please PLEASE do not get a flatline :).

Specs of a flatline (If done correctly):

+ = good
- = bad
= = Same

Range : ++
Accuracy: +
Sound : --
Mobility: -
Cleaning: =
Cosmetics (looks): +

As for other barrels, I'm not sure, but try looking for a J&J Ceramic. Its a great barrel, Bust a ball in there, 2 more shots will clean itself. Also make sure you match paint to barrel too :).

J&J's should be under $50, I'm pretty sure.

Other Upgrades:

DO NOT GET A SCOPE!
Please, Common mistake: Scopes are mostly for cosmetics, most a dot-scope will do, is allow you to aim and keep the other eye open for scanning the area.

Carbine-Arm Stock: Cool cosmetic upgrade, bad if you use the v- sights already on the 98. When you put your head down to look down the sights, this stock will push your mask up. other than that, its cool looking :P.

For Speed:
E-grip or the RT

E-grip is my preferable with a double trigger upgrade to it.

if you're stil looking for a barrel it really depends on what paint you use the most. but I would say CP 1 piece for you tippmann, if you use large bored paint then Excal, SP's line of 1 piece barrels are also good but I right now i'm trying to stay away from them....
