It holds the ball. Exact same as a ball detent.

There is a small pin that holds in the barrel. The o-rings are just there to give it a snug fit.

The ball drops through the feed into the hole in the barrel.

shifty shellshock-
the nubbin is not rubber. it is a small piece of steel wire that has a small loop in the end. This end part partially sticks down into a small hole cut into the barrel. When the ball drops into the feed hole in the barrel, this nubbin applies slight pressure to the ball to keep it from rolling out of the barrel. Milling in the barrel and one of the rubber o-rings keep the nubbin in place. When the barrel is inserted into the gun, the nubbin is not visible. This is a bad picture, but it will give you and idea of what it looks like:

The best way to really understand it is to actualy see it. Buy an automag and take the barrel off-

Actually, AGD does now have plastic nubbins. They are being tested out right now. They should be a little more fogiving on paint than the wire ones. Not that I've ever had a problem caused by the nubbin.......

hmmm....I've never had a problem either....although I have had to replace the wire ones before. Will you be able to use them like the wire ones, in the older barrels?

They fit in just like the wire nubbins. Actually, the first batch were a little too big and each had to be trimmed by hand to fit.

AGD gave a bunch away for testing. My guess is that they should be available to everyone by Spring.
