alright my friends been running a spyder victor for awhile now. anyways he doesn't really play much but he heard about the flatline and its increase in range. Hes always talking about how they should make a flatline threaded barrel for kingman and all that. so one day he called me up saying he modified his stock barrel. i got there and come up and he had actually bent his stock barrel. now if uve never seen the victor stock barrel its **** thick. turns out he had actually hit it with a sledge hammer. needless to say it didn't work, anyone else tried something like this?

:eyes: Your friend actually did that :eyes:
I never tried something like that but I used pringel cans as pods before & they are actually good.

yea he did then he actually tried shooting it but understood that he was a dumb*** and threw it away. luckily it was a stock barrel so he now he has a nice new quiet riot.

I spose you "could" do it if you were to use a little heat and put somekind of a mandrel in the barrel first.

Now, why would he do that. It is common sense that it won't work. And no, never anything like that. I. alike ARR5 tried to use pringle cans ans pods so people won't steal them. The didn't really work well, didn't fit in my pack right, lids didn't stay on. On the plus side, I brang real pods to. But I looked so cool with those "pringle pods" almost as cool as that nija suit thing, I was teh pwner !

i could prolly jb weld an extention to my barrel to make it work like a flatline. definatly not gonna try it anytome soon though.

yeah, I'm currious what someone could produce, if they worked at a muffler shop, or somewhere else that routinely bends pipe.

I don't expect the result to be comparable to a real flatline..but I wonder if the homemade product could generate ay kind of backspin, or even fire a ball, without breaking.

Flatline is stupid dude it costs wayyy to much and a homemade one.......pfft good luck. But your friend he is a DUMB *** that is really funny hit it with a sledge hammer, yea he the next einstein:laugh:

I saw somewhere on the internet where some guy made his own. He basically loooked for a slightly bent pipe that would allow a paintball to travel through. it worked out pretty good.

You guys realize there is more to the flatline than just a bent barrel right?:eyes:

that would probably work if you filled the inside of the abrrel with something hard and bendable to that iw ould keep the barrels shape, but still bend... meh whatever.

One time my friend couldn't get his Boomstick to screw apart, so he put it over a fire in his fireplace, and tried to unscrew it. The front bent, but later in the year (he was getting a new gun anyway), I took it, put it against the bottom of my foot, and pulled each end toward me. I heard a loud crack, and the barrel actually came apart. It doesn't seem bent anymore either. It probably sounds like a made up story, but you can ask him about it. His sn on aim is DyeBallin23022.

enlighten us...what more is there to a flatline, than

a recurved barrel
no porting
large bore
an interior that's rougher than normal.

The whole lining of the barrel isn't rough, just the top of it. That's what puts backspin on the ball.

Anyway, there is probably some mathmatical angle to the curve that you would probably would mess up too.

The whole barrel is rough in the 98c flatline. Read "The Physics of Paintball" (I think it was posted on this site). You need to be able to acheive a fairly precise amount of backspin to produce the "flatline" (aka magnus) effect. Just go buy a stupid (I own one so I can say that)Tippmann 98 with flatline on ebay.

well, I'm a physics major, and it only took me about 10 minutes of thinking to modify a stock spyder barrel to act as a flatline.

I myself use a flatty, so I gave the idea to my friend. He's into airsmithing and carpendry, and this was funny to both of us... all you do is put a piece of thin tape along the top of the barrel. The friction between it and the ball will create backspin. You should experement with different tape and different balls. But please dont try this, mess up your barrel, then blame me!

On a flat shot, he added about 30 feet of distance, and a little bit of accuracy. Pretty impressive for a piece of tape, I'd say!

oxymoron:cool:
making the top of a barrel rough would probably create backspin and is easier/better/cheaper/safer then bending the barrel

Cool Vasmir. I and everyone else I have ever known, has already thought of the tape trick. It definatly doesn't take a "physics major" to figure that out. Since you are a "physics major" maybe you could eleborate on the Magnus Effect. Even though I thought of the tape trick, I decided to just go get my stupid tippmann and flatty and be done with it.

Dude it was freaking hilarious, when I used to have my nartech harness I had like 13 pringel cans on it. People gave me weird looks that day so I just show them a birdie.

what he did was sorta dumd... no offense...

if u hit it with a sledge, it will dent in the middle and paintballs wont get through
