View Full Version : Velocity without chrono/oiling

My friends and I play woods ball. We are having a game tomorrow and I want to know if anyone knows a way to figure out what your velocity is set to without a chrono. It may sound stupid but I don't want to go in there shooting people up with my velocity too high. The reason I post this here is because we all have a-5s or 98c's mostly. I think I might screw the velocity screw out until its even with the rest of the gun if you know what I mean. But i don't want so low that i'm lobbing paintballs. Maybe if you know what one rotation is equivalent to?

My other question is, I just got my a-5 and i'm not too familiar with it yet. I have field stripped it but it seems i should be able to take it apart more. I can't get to the ball detent if I need to clean it but I haven't used it in a game so i'll figure that out later. I guess the question is, I already oiled both parts of the bolt and pretty much everything in between. Should that suffice? Plus I plan to put 3 drops of oil in the Asa and dry fire. Will this oil my gun up good so I don't mess it up? Thanks.

P.S.- Tippmann internals are much more confusing then a Viewloader Genesis Surge :| lol.

not all springs are the same tension and such. There are too many variables to consider telling you how for in the screw should be for the velocity or kingman wouldnt have the screw. just adjust it until youre shooting the same as everyone else.

It seems like thats my only option. You have a good point, thanks anyways timmy~.

Know anything about physics? :wink2:

since your eyse and reflezes will be a little off, set two sticks about 100' apart

use a stop watch to find out how long it takes a ball to go from one stick to the other.

then divide your distance by the amount of time D/T

(100 feet/ T)

that should give you the speed or velocity

your awnser will be in Feet per secound

Wow, that's an excellent idea slayer. Too bad thats the same physics I almost failed in school this year Severedgod
:( lol. Thanks guys, that answers my first question.

have more than 1 question?, lol i feel old for saying so but the simple physics and electronics stuff i knew over a year before we had to take it, but it is the only thing i ever really have to use, anything over algebra 1 or geometry i never use either, and english is for wussies ;)

You could just send out someone, and they tell you if you need to lower your velocity.

Vowohu, thanks for writing your thread in a way that people can actually understand you.

how is he gonna effectively time it when the distance is 100' apart. using a person on each end of the distance will not work since they WILL NOT start/stop the clock at the same time.

it seems that trying to visually compare your paint's velocity with your buddy's is somewhat more sensible, but not very accurate.

a friend standing to the side wihth a stop watch, and distances can be changed 200' 500, dosen't matter as long as it has some time to react to the button

but two ppl at such a great distance CANNOT and WILL NOT start the clock at the same time is my point.
