I am a new player and just got a Tippmann A-5 and was wondering what is the best barrel I could get for it that isn't too expensive. Also will the 32 Degrees Night Stick Barrel for a Custom 98 fit on the A-5?

Without an adapter purchased seperately, a Model 98 Custom barrel will not fit on to an A-5. Barrelwise, there are several factors to account for when choosing. First off, we need to know what price range you are looking at, as "cheap" is a little too generic. Your barrel must have A-5 threads.

Good Speedball Barrels
End Game Stub Nose Barrel
Lapco Bigshot
Custom Products Classic Single Piece 10"-12"

Good Woodsball Barrels
Custom Products Classic SIngle Piece 12"-14"
Lapco Bigshot
Smart Parts Progressive
Dye Xcel

Note that I have not included the flatline because although it is a very cool and good barrel, it is definately not cheap.

what makes one barrel good for woodsball and one good for speedball? If its a good barrel its a good barrel, there isn't much more to it. "Quieter" is a dumb excuse too, so don't even throw that word up here.

You also don't seem to be in the speedball scene either. A longer barrel will allow you to keep more of yourself behind a bunker either by pushing airball bunkers, or putting it in the ridges of a hyperball tube. In the woods a longer barrel allows you to poke through bushes and things. There is no way in hell I'd use a 10 inch barrel in speedball or woodsball, its just too short, plain and simple.

If you want a good barrel at a nice price, get a CP 1 piece in either 14 or 16 inch.

By the basic laws of physics, a 16" barrel is impractical. The paintball only needs 8" of unported barrel for ideal acceleration, and after that you it should be a ported barrel. Ideally, a barrel between 12"-14" will have the best gas conversion and noise reduction qualities when factored together. It is true that longer barrels can be useful in speedball. However, they also have a tendency to hurt your ability to stick tight to cover, and therefore I recommend getting somewhat shorter barrels here, such as the Lapco Bigshot or the CP 12".

Just get a 12 or 14 inch CP 1 Piece.

Get a teardrop barrel! They are cheap, good looking, and very accurate

From my experience, CP is better than Teardrop. Go with a CP 1 Piece.

There's a reason the CP is by far the most recommended barrel. Go with a CP.
