ok, i am deciding whether to get a mag or a cocker. i've had a bad experience with mags. i borrowed this kids and the bolt broke a ball and got wedged in the barrel, ti was a pain getting it out. but i dontt hink all mags are bad. i was just wondering if everybody had that prob. so come on guys, convince me towards a mag, i figured this was the right place.

its personal preference but i think mags look cooler are nicer since theres no external moving parts, better upgrades, more compact, and the list goes on and on :blah: :blah: :blah:

Why don't you go out for a day with a Cocker and see how it goes?

*snickers* I prefer mags, but cockers can be nice. For the price the stock 2001 vert feeds arent bad.

The main reason Autocockers are broken because a new owner that doesn't know much about Cockers takes it apart, which screws up the gun. Like most people say, if it isn't broken, don't mess with it.

Autocockers are great guns and so Automags, but mainly its personal preference like Shifty said. Just try both guns, and whatever feels better in your hands, go with it.

And if you do get a Autococker, learn as much as you can about it.

They look like a tube with a trigger frame to me. And that plain grey is ugly. :eyes: No offense.

Try both before you buy. I like my mag for speedball and I use my cocker in the woods. They both have their strong points. You don't have to listen to everyone and buy what they tell you to. You should try both and decide which one you like better.:)

well, i liked using the mag, it felt good in my hands, but i was just wondering if anybody else had the bolt jamming problem or not.

is caused by 2 things:
1) short stroking
2) the bolt spring being too short. It needs to be longer than the bolt to recock it and keep you in the game.

Check the bolt spring. I have two replace it about twice a year.

well, the reason that bolt stuck is cause it choped a ball, and the shell wedged it in the barrel. can u short stroke an automag? is that possable? i know about chort stroking cockers, but never heard of that happeing on mags?

yeah you can, mags have a very short but hard pull thats the thing 'bout em. Just make sure you pull it ALL the way in and all the way out bfore shootin.

Like a few others said, if you are a person rough on your toys like I am, GET A MAG. Cockers are great guns also, I will probably build up an Ecocker sooner or later, but for all out simplicity and performance, Automags and Emags are the way to go.

exactly. people mess with them when trying to install something or just screw with stuff, and they are like "i dont know man it just broke" DUH!! when tuned right and if you know what you are doing cockers can be very reliable. i vote cocker, i just love the mechanics and accuracy of them. i see mags as a step below cockers, just my opinion, please dont flame . . .

Yes, I forgot that's another way to jam a Mag. After the game grab a buddy and tug off that barrel to clean it out.

Hi:

I am a new player to paintball and I have order a mag and its on the way to my house.

THe mag is much easier to take apart and clean. Both the autococker and the mag are great guns, but the upkeep of the autococker is more intense timing, etc.

I would recommend you to buy a tech video on autococker and automag or watch somebody take apart their gun and clean it.

The videos has expert ( people who designed the guns ) and show you step by step how to take it apart and clean it.

If you find, like me, that one gun is too hard for to take apart and clean and maintain, then dont buy that one.

I am a new person to paintball and i already taken apart a automag and cleaned it as a tech watched me. It was easy.

The only difference in the two guns is the upkeep.

I would recommend the automag, even i newbie like me can operate it, take it apart , clean it and put it back together again no problem :) Plus there is no timing involved. !!

I don't reccomend any newb getting a high end gun because you haven't learned the basics of upkeep on guns yet.

Anyway my vote goes out for the cocker. As long as you learn NOT to mess with it for the fun of it.

Reason to get a Cocker:
-You can upgrade the hell of out it to your likeings
-Accuracy
-The trigger
-Small and durable
-Good for back or front player
Reasons not:
-To some people there is too much upkeep
-To complex for some
-Breaks if in the wrong hands

Reasons to get a Mag:
-Upgradable
-Simple
-Small
-The trigger
-Good for front player
Reasons not:
-Might be heavy for some
-Not good for back players
-Can only use Nitro, you can run Co2,but it sucks

It's just prefrence.Try out both befor you decide anything.

PaintballFreak9, i have to burst ur bubble about the distance with the cocker, the fact is that a paintball fired at the same fps will travel the exact same distance (give or take a few feet) as another fired at the same fps. im not cocker bashing but i just thought i should point that out, infact i like cockers, but mags are my true love

Also you can field strip autocockers and clean them realy fast on the field w/o degassing it. By that I mean you only have to pull out a pin, pull out the bolt, and then run a squigie through it. You can't do that with a mag.
