I have a friend that wants to buy one of the Pro/Carb, Prolite, 68 Carb, or 68 Special.
He's looking for a solid and reliable marker without a foregrip and in the style of the Pro/Carb, but we don't know if we should dismiss the other models out of hand just because they're out of production. Does anyone know the main differences between the models?

The Pro/Carbine is a mix between to great desings -- The 68 carbine and the prolite. The main difference between those two guns in the grip and the foregrip. The prolite have a foregrip exactly like the pro/carbine, but has a grip similair to the SL-68 II with the gas line running through the grip and becomeing the trigger guard. Kinda hard to explain, but once you see a picture (if you haven't already) you'll understand. The internals are pretty much exactly the same, and both are VERY, VERY reliable.
The 68 carbine has a 45 grip exactly like the Pro/carbine, but doesn't have the foregrip like the prolie or carbine. Instead it has a small forefrip like the SL-68 II's pump arm. Also, they have been known to have their built-in elbows to fall off, but you can buy a metal one at www.countypaintball.com that will fix that problem.
The 68 special is a VERY old tippmann. It has a very different design, as it was (I think) Tippmann's first entry into the semi-auto line.
Good luck! :)

Thanks for the info! I just won a new Pro/Carb on eBay for 130, so Pro/Carb it is for him! We're still winning a 68 Special for 50, and I must say that I like the very 'real' style of the rifle foregrip on that one too.:)
