Although I'm no expert at paintball, I'm sure it makes a pretty decent PBall marker. The customer service at PMI is excellent and with a 1 year warranty you can't get much better of a deal.
Just make sure you get a Goggles, CO2 and maybe a new barrel (if you think its necessary) Just be safe and you'll be fine.

for about the same price you can get a model 98, they are a lot more reliable and just a better gun. i have the bl vf and its not that great of a gun. some problems with it are. every 500-600 shots you are gonna have to replace the sear. the threads on the body sometimes dont match up good with spyder barrels. the cocking doesnt always recock all the way. a tippman will last you a lot longer and it has upgrades to spare.

Piranhas are great guns. I have a G2 BL. It works great. The only problem I had was that I was using 3in1 oil. If you use paintball gun oil and take care of your gun it will work great. All you really have to do is clean and oil it after using it. And if you do get a problem it can be fixed in minutes 99% of the time. PMI had a problem with their sears but that was a few years ago. They now use laser cut sears which work great. I have heard of a few people having problems with the threads but PMI sent them a new body. The cocking problem that I am guessing coolguy has is easily fixed and doesnt happen on very many markers and PMI said they fixed them on the G3s.
i've never had a problem with any of my sears
and ifyou do, just call up PMI and they send you a new one for free

no, u prolly had the G2.. PMI put a bad sear out that goes bad after 1-2 uses, (mine did) but after u replace it, it works fine
AND tippmans are nice but remember he wants a starting gun (not knowing if he will like the game or not) and tippmans arnt that upgradeable whereas PMI's are
tippmans are also not always reliable

i know what gun i have. and it is a G3. and bye the way , im the only one who has had problems with worn sears. its just the way the gun is made. also, anyone who says tippmans are not upgradable are stupid. YOu can go to just about any paintball store and find tons of upgardes for tippmans, theya re really popular guns, they have entire kits specifically for tippmans. Tippman is just the better gun.

Everybody has their own opinion. Tippmanns may be the better gun to you, but to many others it may not. To me the Tippmann isnt my style which is why i chose a Piranha. Just choose a base marker like the BL and upgrade alot, but if your not gonna upgrade the sts and ext and ts pro are great guns out of the box.

i think the tippman and pirhana are both equal in being upgradeable, but i think it all depends on the person behind the gun. if u like sniping or an assult rifle u might want a tippman but if u like more of the uzi quick aggressive style u might want a pirhana.
(just an opinion)

I really doubt they would send you a new marker for free. But they will send you a new sear for free ;)

my trigg. broke does anyone know the pmi customer service #?
do they ask 4 your warrenty # or any of that crap?
i have had bad experience with pirhanas... in my opinion a spyder is a good gun for a new player, low maintenance and it wont break down on you.. look at spyder compact, 2000, tl, and tl+

Here we go voicing my opinion again... note the whole "opinion" word. Why anyone would want a Spyder is beyond me (own one, and you'll know why). Anyway, I believe last Spring APG did a review on the Piranha STS VF G2, in which the trigger sear became an issue and they praised PMI for their quick and curtious service. I have dealt with them reguarding the PE Regs, and they were very cool. As for the Tippmann over a Piranha, I dunno. It's an issue of taste. However I do know the Piranha BL VF G3 is only $99.99 @ paintballgear.com, $25 bucks less than a 98 Custom. Gun is irrelevant though, make sure to get a good quality mask, anything less than a thermal lens is a waste of money!:P
