i heard that the flatline barrel slows down the paintballs fps. is this true?

Yes, you will need to use more air to acheive the same velocity as with a regular barrel. Considering the flatline is a ramp, is it really a question?

no thats wrong the flatline does nto slow down any thing and you dont need to use more air to get it to the same distance

Actually you're wrong and Kowz is right buddy. Read up before you try to prove someone wrong, especially someone that knows as much as he does.

umm yes you do. i saw a kid just use one right after it was installed and he needed to up the velocity by like50

The flatline does take more air to propel a ball out at the same speed a regular barrel would, however, the optimal velocity for a flatline is a lot lower than a regular barrel. Generally agreed upon as 250-275 FPS. So the actual extra air used is pretty negligible.
Also, at longer ranges the paintballs decelerate slower due to the Magus effect lowering the air pressure in front of the ball. So it could actually be argued that the flatline shoots balls with more velocity at longer distances.
Another thing lowering the velocity on a flatline barrel is the use of smaller paint. The flatline is about a .70 caliber barrel and a good paint to barrel match isn't supposed to be used because the ball needs to roll along the inside surface of the barrel.
