Hey,
I just loaded up my brand new C98 for the first time... I am using an empire reloader. My barrel is a CP 1 piece .689, and I am using PMI Premiums. For some reason, I just went to shoot it for the first time, and I had a ball or 2 break in the barrel, and now there is paint inside.
What gives? It is supposed to be a good paint to barrel match.
Thanks,
C.K.
P.S. How should I clean the barrel?

Check your velocity to see if you're shooting too hot. Otherwise it could've been a bad paintball. Unless it becomes a recurring problem, I wouldn't worry about it.
Take the barrel off the gun, run some warm water through the barrel, then either run a battle swab through it, or take a paper towel, wad it up, and push it through the barrel with something soft (wooden spoon handle, plastic rod, etc).

paint breaks all the time, it's part of life. suck it up and move on =)
and yea, check that the paint you bought isn't dimpled badly.

Hey,
It's still happening for some reason... This is what I am doing:
1. Load the hopper with paint
2. The barrel is on, and is snug
3. Turn the hopper on.
4. Pull the bolt back
5. Turn the safety on and fire... Every time I do this, I seem to have paint stuck in the barrel or a paint breakage... Doesn't make sense.
Thoughts?

P.S. Do you have to have a bunch of paint in the empire reloader for it to work? Just now I fired a few shots at my car, and it stopped firing... I looked and the bolt didn't go back for some reason... I noticed that the c02 bottle was a little loose so maybe this could have had something to do with it?
One other thing... Do you guys have a problem with the reloader hatch opening? It has sprung open a few times, and paintballs have fallen out.

um you're supposed to hear a snap when you close the lid. make sure that you actually close it all around. and try posting this in the tippman forum. they should be able to help cuz i can't figure out what's wrong.

It could be possible that you're getting lots of blowback, causing your hopper lid to open and you to chop.

maybe the paint is the wrong size for the barrel:confused:

premiums should fit his barrel just fine. it has to be the blowback like the guy said.

Take your barrle off put a paintball in it and if you cant blow the paintball out of your barrle then the paint is to big.

Hey,
Ok this is what I have tried:
1. Took a paintball and put in the barrel, with it pointed down to see what would happen... 8 out 10 fell right through the barrel and fell on my bed.
2. Was going to try a blowback test, where you take off your hopper, and put a couple paintballs in the elbow... I did that, but both paintballs fell into the chamber or whatever you call it.

exactly how fast are you pulling the trigger? when the a ball breaks, does it just break just in the barrel or does it gunk up the bolt also?

Hey,
Not that fast... How many balls per sec is this thing supposed to be able to shoot out with the reloader? I am definitely not shooting it fast.
I noticed some paint in the elbow itself, and even on the inside of the hopper neck.

Curiosity.. Is the PMI Premium from Wal-Mart? I've shot the stuff and it has an extremely poor shelf life. It tends to shrink and become very fragile.
If the paint freely rolls out then the paint's too small.. I've had paint that was too small for my j+j they literally rattled down the barrel and shattered.

Hey,
Ok, I think I figured out what is wrong. I took apart my c98 for the first time, and there is no ball detent/latch. The bolt wasn't pulled back when I opened it, so nothing flew out... I don't see how this gun got out of Tippmann without a ball latch, but it did.
Could this be the thing causing all of the problems? When I took the hopper off there was paint dye in the elbow itself, as well as some on the inside of the hopper neck.
