Well, I've been paintballing for about 2 months, and then I stopped for a while (school). Well schools out folks, but I've never really knew about paintballing.

Now I have an idea of all the parts and everything, and my friend suggested this site to me. Now first, this is a great place to get me started in paintballing, but what if I dont have a computer to be on, is there any other references you guys know about on how to get me started? (Magazines, books, anything)

Second, I'm not sure of the right gun. I had a pump-action gun and I hated it, so I sold it so I could get a new gun. Any suggestions? And third, my price range is limited (say about 250-350) And I can deal with the upgrades and stuff later. Thanks in advance.

Get a 2004 BKO, for woods OR speedball, they = teh win.

Get a mag, a nice thermal goggle system, an empire reloader and an HPA tank.

exactly or instead of the mag an Icon-z is nice and an american(I think  ) marker(the field owners will know more about it if it brakes)

Go for a used mag or a used BKO with nitrogen, an agitating loader and a nice mask like a V-force morph or a profiler :D

BTW What pump did you have ?

He's probably owned a spyder, and Icons are exact clones of spyders. They are, as he said, cheap crap. If you want a blowback, the only marker I would even consider is an imagine.

With that out of the way, I would recommend a bko. It may be stretching your budget a tad to get everything else that you need, but I think it would be definately worth it in the long run.

If you are looking for magazines, check out the following:
Action Persuit Games
Paintball 2Xtremes
Face-Full magazine
Crossfire (part of P2X now, mostly woods / scenario stuff)

As for books, its hard to find anything good reading in books about playing paintball, but there are a few on how to start a paintball business if you are interested in those.

Other than that, the internet is the best reference.

As for guns, you will pretty much get what you pay for. The $350 range puts you into a stock cocker, a quality new or used Mag, and very close to an Impulse. I would avoid any type of Kingman gun or any Spyder type clone.

I work at a field, have lots of friends who play, and have had first hand experience with a pretty wide variety of guns. Spyders aren't worth it if you can afford something better. An Icon is a Spyder clone.

Also, you may hear of a gun called the T.E.S. Dont buy into the hype that they are quality guns. The workmanship is low, and I was unimpressed when I shot one. I would rather shoot a Tippmann over any Spyder.

BTW Spyders / clones are mostly made overseas in Asia, and come with mostly metric screws / fittings which is not the standard here in the US for paintball.

Try any higher end gun, your opinion will change. I think an imagine would even change your mind. Have you shot anything but your icon Z?

You guys, just lay off him. Even if you dont like the Icon, he does so good for him. Anyways, to the person who made this thread: Best thing you could do is try guns out and ideally play games with some so you can get a feel of what you like.

there is a book out on paintball, its pretty beefy too. My library has it. Action pursuit games put it out, but I don't remember what its called.
