You may want to try asking this question on the barrel/paint forum, you will probably get more replies. But there are several different barrels in that price range, that are pretty descent. I would recommend looking for a bigger bore barrel for your first barrel. This will allow you to shoot a wider selection of paintballs without worrying about your barrel being to small especially if you are probably going to be shooting field paint, possibly at several different fields with different brands of paint available. I personally have a dye excel and I like it although I hear that other people have had bad experiences with them. A lapco bigshot would also be a nice large bore barrel. The JJ ceramic and Dye aluminum are both alittle smaller bore barrels, 697 i believe. You can find both of these online for around 39 dollars. Both good barrels but they are alittle pickier about the paint they shoot.

I'd highly recommend the J&J. I shoots Marbs myself, and never had a problem with either my 14" Ceramic, or the J&J Pro-1 I currently use.

A friend of mine shoots Flash paint, and he says it works well too...
