I was woundering what would be the better buy. A Tippmann Custom 98 or a Kingman Spyder TL Plus. Im planning on buying a Level 3 Spyder TL Plus Package or the Level 3 Tippmann 98 Custom Package from the thepaintballstore.com. The Level 3 Tippmann 98 Custom Package is $194.95 and comes with:Package Includes: Marker, JT X-Fire Thermal mask, 20oz tank, 200 paintballs, barrel plug, gun oil, squeegie and a 200 round hopper w/elbow. And the Level 3 Spyder TL Plus Package comes with: Package Includes: Marker, JT X-Fire Thermal mask, 20oz tank, 200 paintballs, barrel plug, gun oil, squeegie and a 200 round hopper w/elbow. So im kind of debating on which one is the better gun and the better buy. So which one is better?

Well if speedball is more of your style and you like a compact gun then get the TL. Tippmanns feel just so...blah. I personally can't stand the way tippys feel. Also it is a lot easier to field strip a spyder than any tippmann. Your best bet is to hold and shoot both guns and then make your choice on what feels best.

Alrite i would reccomend the TL+ because it is easier to find parts for it.Plus the TL+ is just better overall once you upgrade it with like a new barrel all the stuff that you would like lol and your good you could probably enter tourneys and compete with the big boys.......lol

Instead of buying a Spyder TL Plus, try the Spyder Compact 2000. Both guns perform exactly the same, and with the money you save (About $75 I think), you can buy aftermarket parts that will improve the guns performance like a new barrel, or a VL Revolution.

If you take care of your marker, it will take care of you. Oil it before and after you use it. Check o-rings and make sure seals are working. Thats it. Very simple. My friend trashed his Shutter and now something major is wrong with it. I have had my Xtra since April and have had no problems and I play every two weeks if I can. Also take notice in what dropkick said. Look at the spyder compact. The money you save you can buy a new barrel and other things.

its personal preference, but i, along with alot of others, just dont like the feel of tippmans. they are a pain to take apart too . . . i would go with the spyder, just cause i like spyders and dont like tippmans.

Yeah!

After all, you need a new barrel more than an "integrated expansion chamber/foregrip combo", or "machining" or "trigger frame"...

Err...

I would go with a piranha VTL, tippmann custom 98, or if you really want a spyder a compact 2000. I take it your a newbie so get a base model so you dont have to buy for pieces you will replace in the future. The tippmann 98 is a great gun! It is durable and reliable. If you want a gun with lots of upgrades get a tippmann. Put a reactive trigger or a electronic trigger, expansion chamber, new barrel, revvy you got a pretty sweet gun. No what do u have to say.:D

I'll cast my vote for the Tippmann model 98. If you'd rather be playing than working on your gun, you can't beat it. It's the most durable gun I know of. A lot of my friends use them. Half of them never clean the gun and it keeps working just fine. It also has a ton of upgrade options if you want them, all the way up to a full electronic conversion if you desire.

I've had too many spyders come back defective. In fact, I stopped selling them because too many came back and Kingman was hard to deal with on returns/repairs. Tippmanns never come back. They just don't break.

go with the tippmann you cant go wrong. it may take a little time to field strip but it is worth it. it has SO MANY upgrade options and even homemade upgrade options. I play with a c98 and my friend has a m98. and the cool part is you can reduce the trigger pull to .7 pounds!!! cool huh????
just my 2 cents

ok about the long thing, my brothers rear cocking spyder xtra (tl with vert feed) is longer then my Tippmann. not with the tanks or barrels or anything just the guns. with every thing mine is still shorter (keep in mind I have a drop). but for close to the same price you can put some stuff on your tippy and make it like a spyder (double finger trigger, and drop). the tippmann has a much shorter trigger but has some side to side play, the spyder trigger is crap, you will need to get some sort of trigger job to even come close to the tippmann. I would have to say shoot both and see what you like better. I did and liked the tippmann, hence why I own one. if you like being able to open up your gun and see everything that goes on get the tippy, but if you like ease of teardown get the spyder. I like them both alot but I like the tippmann a little more because for the same price you can get a tippmann with an ok barrel (JJ ceramic, cp one piece, lapco bigshot) for the same price as a spyder tl.

Why buy new when there are so many places to get a used package on the net?
Tippman- American!
Spyder-Somethinelseian!

Similar performance. Tippman is a pain to take completely apart, but you shouldn't have to very often. Spyders come in a lot of flavors, but most stacked tube blowbacks will perform equally well. Don't pay for fake eyelashes and lipstick if all you want is performance.
I'll go out on a limb and recommend a GT2000. I played with one for a while and it was a great little gun. Fast, accurate, and lots of upgrade possibilities(kinda homely though). $99 with a free T-shirt at paintballfx.com
