What should be the first upgrade I do to my Custom 98 when I get it?

Upgrade the barrel. You can do this for less then $50 by purchasing one of the following barrels.

JJ Ceramic
Lapco Bigshot
Lapco Autospirit
32 Degree's Terminator
CP Barrel
