How do you measure thread sizes and such. I bought a tap set and one bit is labeled 1/4"-20. Im assuming that there are 10 threads in that 1/4", but am clueless as to the 20. And the 10 thread thing is just a guess. The only thing I know is how to measure threads in TPI.

1/4-20 is a very common tap...whats it for?..
the 1/4 is because it uses a 1/4" screw...20 is for 20 threads per inch...

Alright, thanks a lot. It was just a random tap I picked up from my new kit.

keep in mind that doesn't mean you use a 1/4" drill bit...

13/16" drill bit correct?(is he a genius or did the bit come next to the tap? Lets just go with genius). I got an expensive tap set because I have a job. I already spent my wallets worth. Poor until thursday.
