you cant dry fire a impulse, or atleast it isnt good to because the gun needs to have the bounce of the ball to have a correct recoil. So if you really want to dry fire, put like a towel where you would screw in the barrel

or just get a tapeworm, which should be stock, i dunno why they would put something like this on a stock impulse. in my opinion it is a must have, unless u have an lpr.

witout a ball in the chamber, it will mess up the impulses operating pressure.

No it won't. You will have more shootdown.

Dry firing isn't really harmful; but over time you will definately notice ill performance. Dry firing is not reccomended at all. Try to avoid it.

well thats wat it says in the manual so maybe the manual is wrong or maybe we r both right

It won't mess up the Impulse's operating pressure - the Impulse runs at about 150 PSI. That number won't change due to dry firing. However, dry firing without a ball in the chamber or a rag at the end of the chamber (where the barrel screws in) will cause massive shootdown. Impulses use back pressure to recock. If there is no backpressure from a ball/rag, the Impulse needs more air. Air used for the next shot will be used for recocking the impulse. When there is no air for the next shot, you will obviously have shootdown.

i like to think of the tapeworm as a kind of insurance, or at least how it helped me out. back in the day when i had the stock imp with the revvy i would be shooting you know minding my own buisness and then BAM a misfeed and a stuck bolt. happened alot on low paint bunker runs too.... but yes its pretty much a nessesity to have one now a days, unless you have the lpr and such. lets you drop your pressure a bit too if you so desire....

okay, here is what happens. now, if we remember anything from my sticky about lprs and how impulses work (:P   ), we will know that when a stock impulse fire, the air that is powering the ram, which goes through the solenoid is stored in a cavity that is fed from the end of the same cavity that feeds the impulse's main valve. the the gun fires, the solenoid closes, air pushes the ram forward, the hammer opens the valve (it is connected to the end of the ram), air goes out the valve, through the bolt and to the paintball (the bolt it connected to the hammer via the bolt pin), then the solenoid valve opens, and the gun recocker. when the gun tries to recocker though, there isn't much air left in the solenoid cavity (because i went out through the main valve to the paintball when the main valve opened), so you need either a paintball, or a towel over the front of the gun to help trap a little extra air in their to help the solenoid let the air recock gun. what a tapeworm does is that it doesn't let any sizable amount of air back into the main valve's chamber so that the solenoid still has enough air to opperate the bolt/hammer/ram. so, to dry fire the impulse, you need some sort of solenoid optimisor (tapeworm, gp valve, lpr setup, vff/hfv/hfa/dff, iso mod), paint in the breach, or a towel over the front of the gun. okay? you guys are right though, no matter how you do it, dry firing doesn't hurt the impulse in any way.
