This is my first post, new to PB. I have a 98 Custom and an A-5. The A-5 is so much louder when I shoot it. Will a better barrel quiet it down a lot?
Thanks Steve

Whats the velocity set at? And yes, a barrel with lots of porting will quiet it down.

the more porting a barrel has, the quieter it will be because much more air will be dispersed. and the stock barrel on the A-5 is short and that's contributing also to how loud it is. find a barrel with a decent amount of porting and around 14inches, anything longer increases drag because there is more distance the paintball has to travel. you can go shorter if you want but a paintball needs atleast 9 inches of non-porting.

Does the sound really matter? You won't be able to silence your gun, so it won't matter....but a new barrel IS a good idea.
The Teardrop barrel has some nice porting.

Actually, anything past 8 inches doesnt matter accuracy wise. But a 14-16 in will performs well because it protects the ball for that much more distance. You can tuck into bunkers better and push it past branches in the woods.

16 inches and easy to hide in a bunker? Protects the ball????

Ever use an air bunker? You can push the side of the bunker down with the barrel to tuck in better.

You don't really "tuck in", you just can move the bunker around.
And what about the Protection of the Ball you mentioned??

Youve never played airball have you? The bunkers are anchored to the ground

Try shooting a paintball through an air bunker. It protects the ball from the air bunker by pushing into the side of it. If you put a 16" barrel on and push it against a bunker, itll go the majrity of the length ans allow the paintball to be that much closer to the bunker, and thus the marker that much closer, reducing the amount of marker exposed, thus reducing the possibility of a marker hit

Good point, and yes I play airball a lot, but you could have said something other than "protecting the ball".

Get a 16" J&J Ceramic 1 piece. Or something similar.

I am thinking about a 14" J&J or a Smart parts Progressive. I read the reveiews and its still on those two.

Or you can get a CP-1 piece for a cheaper price and get the same performance...but if you want "quiet", look into the Smart Parts Teardrop barrel.

I would agree. The Teardrop is the ticket if you want quiet.

I got the TearDrop in a 12" and it did the trick.
