I am looking for a new gun. I mostly play in the woods so i will need something with
good accuracy and range. if i get a new gun i will get a new barrel so the stock barrel
doesnt matter. i mainly want something with good range that isnt too heavy and bulky.
i was thinking about these:
Spyder Xtra- smart parts tear drop, new springs, maybe new grip frame, new bolt.
Spyder TL+ - smart parts barrel, bigger drop forward, new spring kit, new bolt
My budget is about $250 for the gun and upgrades to the gun. i already have a mask, tank etc.

Don't get any of those guns, you're not upgrading from a 98 at all. Save you're money and buy a Automag or an Autococker.

Its just that my model 98 is kinda heavy and ugly.

unless you like the vert feed upgrading a xtra like that is a waste of money, compact 2k- $80, Shocktech Delrin Venturi- $20, your choice barrel, X chamber bottom line- $35 with the money you save you could go nitro

IMO the spyders are just as ugly, and the bulkiness doesn't matter in the woods.

I say save up for a mag. You'll love the lighteness and compactness of it in the woods

if you already have the 98 then just get a flatline for it and you get both range and accuracy

Hey,
I was in the same boat that you are, had a 98 (working great) but wanted a change. I went with an STO Autococker. More than you were looking to spend though.
I would not sugest upgrading from the 98 to any of the guns you listed. There is no real perfomance benefit that you would be getting by doing that. Heck for not a whole lot more you can get a stock cocker... I have seen them as low as 329.00.
Just my 0.2.

Well, one of my friends was upgrading his Millenium to a WGP dark raider or x raider, so i was thinking of going that way too. any suggestions on that? thanks a lot for the info that has already been posted. :)

Just save up your money, and get a gun worth getting! :)A millenium to an X-Raider is still no where near an upgrade! The performance will not be better at all. From what you keep suggesting I don't think you should upgrade at all.

He probably dosen't have a choice. There probably aren't any speedball fields where he lives. Like me (but not for long :) )

why would you want a heavy gun in the woods? You want light because the games are alot longer. avoid electros, stick with pumps and mechanical guns...

where i live there are no fields, so i have toplay woods ball. my friend is getting a dark raider because his millenium is always broken. i have 2 other friends who milleniums and all have the same problem with the valve and pin. he just wants something more reliable, thats all.

If you go to any kind of spyder, you are not upgrading, you are sidegrading. You 98 has as much potential as any gun mentioned. If you want performance, find someone to do you a nice trigger job, and spend that money on QUALITY paint. Assuming you have a good barrel, good paint will make more accuracy difference than anything. Nothing worse than someone blowing all their cash on a fancy gun, then shooting some lumpy, misshapen paint in it. Its hard to beat a 98 for a woods gun (unless you are shooting my shocker! heh)
If you don't have any fields nearby, I have to assume you don't have much access to HPA fills and usually use CO2 tanks. If thats the case, you will see very little to any performance increase with even a cocker or a mag, because they just work so much better on hpa. Mags are tough to shoot on co2 when it gets just a little cold. My buds with mags use hothands hand warmers taped to their receivers to keep their guns from freezing up. These guns can perform well on co2, but not a great deal better than a 98.
IMO speedball blows. All you have to be is fast, no strategy, no surprises. You know where everyone is, everyone knows where you are. Where's the challenge? Go with the flatline on the M98. If it is installed properly, it works great. The M98 can stand up to the rough and tumble of woods play too.

Just keep your gun. Use your money on paint and upgrades.
Another thing you should do, buy a chronograph if you don't already have one. Those are a MUST for outlaw players.

He's right. Get a couple of hand warmers for the winter too (DONt put them on your co2 tank!)

just stick with the Tippy, an all around good marker no matter where you play.
