I think it might get more respect and recognition if it were an olympic sport.

I don't think it's going to happen. In fact, I know it won't happen by 2008. Maybe 2012 or something, but there's no way it will happen in 2008.

I think it'd be an embarrassment at this point, seeing as how many "pro" tournament players cheat just to win. I mean if people can't play with dignity on their own, what makes us think it could be an olympic sport?

Don't flame me for what I say but paintball would have to clean up it's act for it to be an Olympic sport. The whole "sportsmanship" thing would all go to hell if you put paintball in the Olympics. Paintball just wouldn't fit. Maybe it should be in the X-games. Try and combine paintball with swimming, track, baseball and such and it just won't work. If you put paintball in with Motocross, BMX and Skateboarding it would be pretty awesome. The Olympics and X-games just have too different types of crowds who like two different types of sports and lifestyles.
edit: would it be cool to be able to watch the greatest sport ever in the Olympics? Yes but I highly doubt it will happen. There is too much cheating and attitude problems

I think the reffing would be better if it were at the olympics. They could have someone watching each player, keeping them in line. If they pay people to run up to wipe down a wet spot on a volleyball court real quick in game, I'm sure they can find enough people to make it possible.

with the hopes that having the eyes of the world watching you would discourage cheating, i say yes.

Different boards , bounce , wiping many things . I think it shouldn't there's so many cheating factors.

I doubt there would be a problem with wiping or anything, but I'm sure they would have insane cheater boards and stuff, which isn't nearly as bad as wiping.
People outside of paintball would see someone wipe a hit and be like "He's cheating" But if someone had crazy bounce, they'd just be like "holy crap thats hella fast"

Nailed it. Every sport has their quarrels throughout the season, and things they should be ashamed of. Baseball pitchers hitting batters, batters charging the mound, bench-clearing brawls, never in the olympics. Basketball has at least two fights a year, traveling every play, never in the olympics. The guys in paintball are human, and if they take the responsibility of representing the US, they'll do it with pride. They have common sense, they know they won't have to cheat to win, they could all use pumps and still dominate. Just think about it.
Paintball - olympic exhibition sport, 2008. You heard it here first.

definitely. olympians behave themselves. even the hockey players. and i can see pb fitting in with the olympics better than the x-games. x-games are mostly about doing tricks on different conveyances, right? pb is more head to head.

That and tournament paintball is mostly team based...

X-games are extreme sports that are fun to watch. There is always music and its pretty roudy. The Olympics are more professional. Not a whole lot of headbanging and crazy stuff. I think paintball would fit right in with the X-games.
edit: hey by 2008 paintball will be changed. I'm hoping there will be inproved techniques of catching cheaters. In 2008 paintball will hopefully have cleaned up it's act and possibly be ready for the Olympics but you jsut can't tell.

No. I don't think its ready. Paintball is still developing as a sport. I think it should plateau a little before it gets put in. Look at soccer or running. They have many many years to fall back on, and while the sport may change a little, it remains the same. 5 years ago, electros were still being developed and look at the sport now. Paintball needs to clean up its act a little and develop itself as a sport more before it gets put in. I mean its only 15 years old it still hasn't had time to become a solid sport. Its too unpredictable. I think by 2016 it will be ready.

no offense but how many pro paintballers do you think would make it pass the drug tests to get in the olympics. and i would prefer to see paintball in the x games more than the olympics cause like somone said olympics and x games are two different types of sports and lifestyles but i just think it would be better if it was in the x games.

You all also need to realize before a sport officially becomes an olympic one, it has to be voted in by a commitee and it becomes an exhibition sport, where nothing is recorded and no medals are given out, but they play it. Four years later, (or somewhere inbetween) they may decide to add it officially as an olympic sport. Lamante, if paintball became an exhibition sport, the four years that would follow would most certainly springboard it enough to be ready. Our paintballers would be drooling to represent our country in that next olympics, and would definetly get their act together.
Once again. Exhibition 2008, playing by 2012.
