Locked, no reason given, no rules broken.

I asked Turambar why it was locked--

It's a scheme or it's a scam, either way, he's banned and this thread is closed.

OK, so Magnus thinks it's a scheme or scam, which it obviously isn't as my iPod came today. Now, irregardless of that, most thread closings are closed right after a post by a mod giving a reason why the thread is being closed... either it's a repeat, it's become a spam fest, rampant OT/flaming...

But none of that. I understand that the referrals could be considered spam, but my post does not include a referral link, not for me or any of the other posters.

Mods don't have to give reasons for closing threads..in OT it happens a lot.

But like I told you in the IM...until Andrew says it is ok, they are going to stay closed/keep being closed.

Every single locked thread, save mine, has or had a referral link posted. Therefore, the "those were closed so yours is too" defense really holds no water.

But I won't debate this with you here and now, as we all know how that turned out last time. I'll just sit and wait for a reply from a higher up.

And while I'm not a mod and don't pretend to be and have no clout or say in the thought process behind the closing of these threads, I would want to comment here that this is a paintball site...the fact that you have an off topic forum is a privilege and not a right. It's also their perrogative to post a reason for why it's closed or not. These things aren't likely done in an arbitrary manner.

Is this a scam...maybe...maybe not, but it smells of one (see also: Scheme, Pyramid ... where you can also legitimately make money but it's usually a scam) and the mods made the judgement call to close it. If you think it should be reopened, make a convincing argument as to why the thread is legitimate and has relevance and refrain from complaining and shouting out conspiracy theories about how this mod or that mod doesn't like you, has a vendetta against you or is out for vengeance...because it doesn't help your argument.

The mods, like all of us, are human...sometimes the get things right, sometimes they don't. Like the rest of us, I'd be willing to bet that if you can formulate a well articulated case for your thread as opposed to a series of accusatory, inflammatory, off-base attacks on them, they'd also be willing to work with you. These forums are a give and take...and I've found most everyone here to be quite reasonable in that regard. So...if I may...I'd suggest a different approach to dealing with these problems.

And though you may not have to moderate through those posts, we do. We have orders and rules to follow, and closing spam threads is one of them. One more ipod post, though not directly advertising the site, even worse, encouraging people that it actually works, will be a contributing factor to spam on our forums. It's no different from 0utwar or any of the other mindless drivel. This is a paintball forum, not an Ipod forum.

Besides, if you really wanted your thread re-opened, you would have PMed me or one of the other mods privately (like a super) or messaged one of us on AIM, instead you cut and copied a conversation from Turambar trying to point fingers at him trying to place blame on him in view of the PBR public.

Sounded like you had a good sound argument, but your approach was all wrong, as Lopez explained, trying to gain understanding and trying to be offensive and lay blame are two very different things, you chose to do the latter of the two in this thread.

I'll pipe up here too considering I was one of the mods that voted to close the thread. You already know it's nothing against you personally Tuef. We get along pretty well and I do in fact like you. You're a hell of a good guy. You also know I won't BS you. I tell it how it is and you've seen that in action before.

We all know why the scam (or potential scam) threads aren't allowed. Yes, you got your pod. That's good for you. You also have enough intelligence to work around little things that might pop up. Like the credit card thing, or bidding on something you know you'll be out bidded on for examples. So others might not be that lucky. 99% of these topics are in fact scams. You know that. We have to take that into consideration and that's why ALL of them are not allowed here. No one picked on you. I couldn't get away with posting it anymore then anyone else. That includes you my friend. Scam style threads get closed. Nothing new. That WAS a scam "style" thread. Yours might have been honest. maybe not and you're just smart enough to beat them at their games. We can't take the chance that some little kid will try and fail and get screwed. Don't take it personal. We gotta look at the big picture here and do what we should. Some of these monkeys can't protect themselves and it's our job to do it for them. Even if it means pissing off our friends.
