View Full Version : When you can only have one...

I'm either buying a used mag (I am going to inspect it first) or a new 98 Custom.

I'm going to need a barrel. I really want to buy only one, for cash reasons. But I don't mind buying a good one.

Most places around here are field paint only, though they usually supply pretty decent stuff. They are, after all, charging $100/case.

Any thought/suggestions?

Get the mag IMO, assuming it's still in good shape, and order Equation's barrel kit. I've heard it's top of the line, and you'll never need another barrel, even if you change guns all you have to buy is the adapter piece. It's a totally customizable barrel too. Go look for the equation thread somewhere in this forum.

Looks like the Equation thead got deleted. Oh well, I'm sure someone knows the website. Check around and run some search engines. I think you'll like what you find.

A lot of barrels are copying Smart Parts' Freak system ... sleaves or interchangeable backs of varying sizes that will fit any paintball.

I guess the question is "How much are you willing to spend on a barrel?"

Aside from the Freak, Custom Products, ACI and others are making barrels that come with different sized sleeves or backs. The kits range in price from $189 to more than $250.

Good Luck

Ummm.... Actually I was thinking of spending less than $100. Those barrel systems cost as much as two to three barrels.

Yes they do, reckless. I have and recommend a Lapco Bigshot. Under $50.00 and does an excellent job.

My sig has a link to my review of the Equation MS Pro system. You'll find a link to their website there.

The price is much higher, but you get anywhere from 4 to 8 inserts with one of these barrel systems, making it comparable to 4 to 8 barrels with varying bore size...

Good luck,

I wouldn't say that equation is copying the freak it is better. It doesn't have all the oversized bores that you are never gonna need and it goes as small as .683 which is plenty small. Plus you get to make it look like whatever you want; colors, shape, barrel length and ported or not ported. very much worth the 189 I paid for it

if you want to spend less money just buy the equation design with 1 teflon insert instead of the whole set and it costs you 119$. I would reccoment either the .687 or the .689 outperforms freak and lapco so you should go with it

Hey it's only $75. Get the insert that matches ur local feild paint and ur still under $100. And u can even buy a new front for it for $45 and u would have a decent barrel for only $130. That's what i am doing. Do you think that that is a decent idea.

Considering the amount of critique saying that equation design is a better barrel than the freak, maybe you should consider getting that with 1 insert that fits your field pain and its $119 which is cheaper than that jr freak.

not unless u buy a new front. and if anyone tries to come back with how the freak jr looks loud so u should buy the equation, my friend has an equation and it is loud, it has 12 hole of porting and muzzle brakes don't really help. hell, it scared the **** out of me when i shot it on my gun which usually has a jt barrel on it.

so... u can get a freak jr for only $75. that comes with an insert. i think the insert is .692. so if your feild uses medium-large bore paint then you can only spend $75. if u have to get a new insert, that is only $20 so you are looking at $95. and if you want to get a teardrop front, that is only $45. so you then you would be looking at $130. but u won't need the front. so do the math. a freak jr is cheaper (w/o a new end)

.683 is not plenty small enough if u use rps allstars. they have like a .675 bore rating. and balls can swell pretty bad, so u might need the larger ones. although i am still with the freak jr.
