I have been hearing a lot about internal polishing of the internals of the Tippmanns. How exactly do you go about doing that yourself or how would see about someone to do that?

You can do it with a scotch brite pad. It basically removes fine particles of metal. You won't notice that big of a difference.

I have gone board to board trying to find out exactly what it is and what it does... if it isn't that good to do why do I see so many people doing it? I think my gun kicks butt the way it is now, but if I can get a little bit more performance out of it with just a little elbow grease I would do it.... if it ACTUALLY would accomplish something.

I polished up my internals a while ago. The only thing that I noticed, and the only thing it would do mind you, is smoother cycling. But, every little bit helps, in theory the polishing would speed up your cyclic rate by maybe a few milliseconds by providing a smoother surface with less friction for the front and rear bolts.- Something to do on a rainy Sunday.

I read once that polishing the internals makes the marker louder, but I'm not sure why that would happen.

Well the main reason I polished my internals was to get rid of the black anodizing that was in there. It bugged me that everytime i took the gun apart it made my oil jet black. Also the anodizing is not a smooth coat especially after your guns been cycling back and forth, by removing the anodizing and having metal on metal your gun should actually cycle smoother.

Have you guys heard anything about silencing the gun after polishing? I read about a fix using teflon tape around the bolt going into the chamber to make sure that it doesn't fall out and it actually quiets the gun a lot.

I think that was for those who have foolishly overpolished their internals. The bolt actually falls and makes a click from the impact. I think the teflon tape is to even up the space, resulting in less noise.
Or I could be entirely wrong.

heard that on m98center.com.... something about it.. I'll have to read it over again.

You can put a felt furniture pad inside where the bolt comes back to help keep it quiet.

Polish the internals with a brillo pad -use mother's magic or any gun polish. To make your gun more silent; First cock/fire without any gas (notice the loud metal sound). Get 3m's double sided tape 1/4 thickness, take the bolt off, clean it (hammer-the face that strikes the internal pin) with Windex-peel one half the the tape off, place hammer on top of it, make sure it sticks really good, take a razor and trim off excess tape (make it flush).Once it's on really good remove tape on other other side ( this is where the hammer hits the pin ). Oil the other side of the tape so it does not stick to your finger(hops 9). Cock/fire without any gas and notice the difference!! This will not effect the performance of the marker. DO NOT USE TEFLON-oil breaks it down and it will turn into a gooey paste that will damage the internals!! Felt will not last as long as 3m's 2x tape- micro-hairs break up.

Perhaps people are over polishing their guns to the point where the tolerances between the bolt and chamber have gotten sloppy.
Besides, shiny surfaces tend to reflect sound just as they do with light, making them acoustically noisier.

Ummm... Think about that again. You polish your internals does two things. First, it allows the internals to move smoother. Two, your ROF increases just a little bit. The ROF doesn't increase anything incredible but to some people every little bit helps. When I had my Tippmann I polished the internals so that it operated more effeciently allowing me to operate the gun at a lower pressure. Also, a new rear spring could be used to make the gun cock at a lower operating pressure. Now that your gun is a little bit more effiecient, you can have a substantially quieter gun, better consistency, and more shots to the tank fill.
Polishing the internals does different things depending on who you talk to. In my experience with it, and with a specific setup you can have the edje over other Tippmanns. It only takes a few hours and a little bit of patience, the rewards are great!
Tippmann's are such a great gun if you want to do a lot of modifying. www.m98center.com is the BEST page to go to if you want to modify your Tippmann.
Good luck!

Just be sure to filter out the "crap" mods listed on that page as well. Some of that stuff you should NOT do.

Well I don't know if it silences the marker very much or even if it makes it louder, but it does reduce the friction when the internals move = smother action
