ok i have been looking for a matrix for a long time now. I just so turns out that there is a local guy that was wanting to sell his setup for pretty cheap. The only problem is he was kinda shakey(sp?) on the details. What i do know is that it is an older trix. He said it had a full freak kit, Warp feed hooked up, freeflow bolt kit, and he didn't know what reg. The thing is he was willing to let it go at a mere $550. Basically i'm wondering how the older trixes are quality wise and if its worth it to sell my cocker and go for it. No possibility of trades so i will have to sell the gun for sure.

EDIT: oh and he said he had recently updated the board. I don't know if it is Tadao or what.

Older trixes are uglier and heavier. Freaks are useless. Warpfeeds are useless. The gun should perform the same as a new matrix as long as it has a tadao or lcd board and a decent LPR (and HPR). Take a pic of the gun and post it;I could help you more if I could see it. If it's a push button trix $550 isn't bad, but if it's a slide switch $550 is a little steep.

I highly doubt i will get pics. I also do believe its a slide switch trix. i pretty much planned on selling the warpfeed and the freak kit as soon as i got it to buy a decent barrel and some upgrades.

I'd pass. You can find slide switch trixes on PBN for $450-ish. Keep in mind you can't put a new board in a slide switch trix without a new frame. Personally I would hold off for about 2 months longer then try to find a DM3; they're selling for $600-$700 right now, and after the DM5 comes out I'd say they will go down to $500-$600.

are you talking about new or used? i would prefer not to get a used one unless i can see it and hold it in my hands.

well i will revive this thread tomorrow after i talk to the shop owner about it. If it does have a new frame/board i'm thinking about buying it. Can someone explain or give me a link somewhere that tells the specific differences between a push button and slide switch matrix?

might find something in the FAQ at www.thematrixcenter.com but the main difference is the board and the frame. The body is also somewhat different I believe, with the slide switch being a bit bulkier. With the same bolt, regs, board, and trigger all matrixes will perform about the same.

thanks a lot nasty, you've been a huge help. One more question though, what about eyes? if this one doesn't have eyes would it be more beneficial to hold off and get a different one?

Well, eyes definitely make setting the gun up a lot easier. I still don't know how to set the front pulse/back pulse to the best settings for speed and anti-choppage.
They'll also help make the gun faster because you won't have to limit the BPS or deal with the cap (well, really high debounce) on tadao boards with the eyes off.

If it were me, I would get one with eyes. I like being able to use any loader I want, and be able to take full advantage of the gun's capabilities. A good halo with fresh batteries should prevent most choppage if you don't have eyes, but it's definitely nice to have the extra insurance eyes offer.
If you buy one without eyes, and want to add them later, I believe the cost is around $130 for the eyes, breach, and eye carrier (the drilling is pretty easy, most people could do it themselves), and if it's an LCD trix the board probably already has a slot to plug the eyes in, if not you can get an lcd board off someone for $30 or so, or a tadao board for about $120.
