I have recently got into paintball and I am addicted. I have a 98c with a 12" J&J ceramic and I was wondering if I tricked it out (i mean spend another $150-200 on it, nitro, low pressure, ect.) could it compete in accuracy, ect. with the higher end markers such as autocockers and automags (angels are way out there). I am asking this becuase i am wondering if later i should put money into this gun for tourny's or if i should keep my gun the way it is, practice with it, then buy an autococker/mag with the money i saved plus a little more. Basically, is it worth it to trick out a m98c?
Thanks for the help.

Well, the gun is only half the equation, the other half is you. Even if you had a BE Talon, If you can run fast, shoot well, hide well, and creep without being noticed, you could sneak up on someone with an angel,(Assuming you are playing woods or on a field with lots of bunkers.) and pop him once with your little plastic toy- BUT, if he saw you, he would paint your clothes a new color. So to answer you question, yes, as long as your gun functions properly, you can shoot well, and you are a competent player, you can give the higher end guns a run for their money.

I agree with you, the gun is only half the equation if not less, but i guess what i meant to ask was is it worth it to trick out a 98c or should i save the money and buy a better gun (mag or cocker) in about 6-8 months.

It depends. What is it about your 98 that you think is holding back your game? Maybe you should spend less $ on gear and more $ on paint to practice?

In general, you never get back what you invest in a marker so it's better to save the $ for your next one.

Not it won't hold you back. The Angel it isn't even that far out there. It is fast and reliable, just like an electro custom.;)

If you want to compete with rate of fire, just go with the electro-pneumatic conversion. Several of my friends have the e-bolt in their M98s. They don't have any trouble keeping up with my Intimidator.
