Could anyone help me decide on a decent gun to get. I have played before with a few types of guns but I do not own one. Mostly I play with my friends 98 customs. I'm an admirer though of my friends spyder with a boo-yah and 9v revvy. Since most of the people in my area own 98's thats all they tell me to get. I'm intrested in something under 400 bucks that is electric or rugged semi. Options that I have encountered are spyder flash and em1, pgi mayhem, autococker 01, auto mag (w/nothing on it). I want something that has range, quickness in firing, with a minimal amount of breakage in the balls. (wouln't that be nice). Also I want to keep upgradability in mind. Right now I play in the woods but i someday hope to play some real speed ball. I keep seeing pictures of people who have beefy guns and I someday want something like they have. what gun that I listed or one that you know of that would be good and has the upgradability options, price and fit my specs?

okay, here is a good decent set up. You can get an Impulse with Semi only for like 400. Now sure you need a rev and a tank. But the Impy can run off of co2 and since its a semi only you could use a standard hopper until you can get a rev. And for 400 you get one of the best regulators on the market, the Max Flow. Also, you get the smart parts progrssive barrel. add $40 and you get a gas thru grip for better handling. Plus if you arnt' asking for this gun at x-mas you can ask for sticky grips, and a 12v rev. Now, sure thats a little over $400 but you will be much much much more pleased with this than a Spyder or a m98. If you dont want to get the impy i'd say mag or cocker. Go to a store to shoot one before you decide. You might hate the one you buy once you see a guy with the other gun and shoot it, so find out before you buy. Plus they are so ****ing upgradable. They have the most aftermarket parts of most paintball guns. The mag is a little more simplistic compared to the cocker which requires a mechanical knowledge. Cockers and mags have good resale value as does the impulse. A lot of people are in your posistion everyday and are willing to buy used guns. That is another posibility for you. Get a use mag or cocker or impluse. They are all great for rec/speed ballers that are thinking of going to a tourney and all three are ready to perform.

Cockers are, Mags are not.

Cockers do, Mags do not.

Cockers and mags have good resale value

If you knew anything about selling a mag or a cocker, you would know that this is NOT TRUE. Mags and Cockers probably have the worst re-sale values, as do Shockers. I see $1000 cockers and mags go for about $450-500 on the forums every day.

Actually, Shockers have very good resale value. The only ones that have poo for resale are the ghetto style PVI shockers. Go on ebay and try to find a Shocker (with a reputable seller) for under $450 (which is decent for any used gun)

As for Cockers, the reason they have poo resale value is because everyone makes them personal and anyone browsing a sale ad is not going to pay high prices for a gun personalized for you. That and there are SO MANY of them for sale.

For the record, mags are pretty darn modifieable (not as much as cockers, but still enough so that you can see 100 mags and make each one different.)

First off I never implied that mags have the same amount of upgrades as the Cocker. I am just saying that mags can be upgraded.
As for the resale, a lot of nice cockers and mags go high on ebay and yahoo auctions. And if they don't then o well. I never owned a cocker before, we all gotta learn sometime.

buy this gun... your freinds were right about a 98. this is already upgraded and is a great gun for a little upper edge then basic guns and for alot less cheaper.

My vote goes to the Flash. You'll have plenty of money left over for the following:
Reg
Delrin bolt
Tornado Valve
Nitro
and maybe a new barrel if it turns out the Flash barrel sucks.

I understand however, that the AMG can be bought for $399. Maybe Kingman put a decent reg on it......

Personally, I'd think you'd be happiest with a cocker, mag, or impy. All three are guns you can use for a very long time. The impy would be easiest to use out of the box (it's not hard to maintain or learn the trigger). The cocker would be a lot harder to maintain, but once you get it down, you have a gun they can bury you with. You can upgrade it to hell and back, and have a very very nice gun in a few years. The mag is in between both in both categories. If you don't have a pro shop near you, I would probably stay away from the cocker, because you would need to learn every little detail of how it works, and learn it quick. Also, if you get an impy, get it from FOM at e-paintballoutlet.com . Anyway, regardless of what you get, make sure you try one out before hand, to see how you like it. If you get something you don't like and have to resell it, you will lose money and time to play with your gun.

Dude go with a cocker or mag not a crappy tippmann you will be happier with a mag or cocker because tippmanns are NOT highend guns You will be much happier buying a mag or cocker with an after market barrel like a tear drop for like 50 bucks you will only spend abut 360 on the gun so that is like 410
