Your playing paintball and some guy with a totally tricked Gun (angel, cocker etc) Is shooting 26 rounds a second. Your 40 feet away and hes shooting at 290. Hes on full auto and fires for 6 seconds before the first ball will reach you. You get hit by the first ball. How many rounds are still comiong at you?
I love word problems. I thought about this when i saw something similar happen to someone on the field. He got hit by about 19 more rounds. Can anyone actually answer this question?

156 balls would be fire, but thats not posible with a paint ball gun so,it be more like 10 too 12 a sec so it be about 50 ,and by the way i should know the 50 part cause i was slam by a full auto on saterday,15 hit me 3 broke and the rest kinda left this nice marks down my back.

at this rate, he has 240 paintballs in the air. Wether they hit him or not, that's a different question. The Distance formula is Distance=Rate/Time. TO get the Rate, you have to multiply everything by the time, to get the rate by itself, so now the formula becomes Rate=distance * time. distance is 40 ft, time is 6. multiply those two, and you get 240. Not saying that all of these will hit you, but if they do..that's sux to be you..

Well i dont get paid too do math LOL,All i know is dont ever want that many rounds chasing me too a bunker

doesn't add up.
if he's shooting at 290 feet per second and you're 40 feet away it would take 0.1379 seconds for the first ball to reach you. so i don't see where the 6 seconds comes from.
but forget the distance if hes shooting for 6 seconds and 26 balls per second. then there are 155 balls after that 1st ball is shot. including the 1st shot he can shoot 156 balls in 6 seconds.
but if you do it the other way, saying he is standing 40 feet away and shooting 26 balls a second in the fraction of the second he can have 4 balls in the air by the time the 1st hits you.
the reason people are getting different answers is the inconsistency of the given information.

290 fps is the muzzle velocity. After the ball leaves the barrel, it hits the air, and is introduced to friction. True the paintball might be leaving the barrel at 290 fps, but after that, it slows down dramatically.
A damn fool

the problem is u have to consider the bore size of th paintball, the deceleration of the ball with th drag, etc etc etc. Basically, id just go out there have iur little brother as a target and tryi it out on him.

by the way keep 'em coming w/ the math problems, i love that stuff. next time try to keep the numbers more consistent though. its good to see fellow math guys in the crowd

Ha ha alright kool. I think its kinda fun. Even tho i failed algebra one, yes algebra one, the first six weeks. Sigh, got me out of band and pretty much everything. Failing sux take my word for it

why dont i put a spin on this and say you are 200 feet away. and for mathamatics sake lets say he is useing a boomer and allstars and every shot is dead on @ 200 feet. Now how many balls would be flying at your face when the first one hits you straight in the gog.s? use all the above info. good luck.

i found 37.7 balls, so like almost 38. what did you guys get?

Lets add too this if all them balls are heading your way how many sec's is it going to take you, before you say I am out or I am hit.

Ok guys.....im on spring break, so im gonna refrain myself from doing this one. Normally i would, but this rest from school has told my mind to shut the hell up. :D

Damnit, i convinced myself to figure it out. What kind of math-loving freak am I? Alright...heres how ya do it. If hes shooting 26 rounds per second for 6 seconds than u multiply the two and get 156 rounds. The fps and distance are irrelevant because, no matter what speed his gun is firing or how far you are away, all the shots will eventually reach you. Therefore, because one shot has already hit you according to Drako, you will be expecting 155 more shots to smack u right in the goggles. Creek, almost..... ;) :D

That would like put them into a coma, or however you spell that. The deep sleep thingy, lol. What would you rather take, quarter illion dollars every day for a month. Or 1 cent the first day, 2 cents the second day, 4 cents the third day, 8 cents the fouth, it doubles each time. After you doulble it all for 30 days, add it all together and decide which you would rather have. Add all of the quarter millions together too. But don't add choice 1 and 2 together, wouldn't work then, yes, i know, i am confusing myself, just try it.

Right up my ally...
Ok heres a new problem (if not the most complicated)
You got a shocker (don't ask why i chose it) with a 18 inch boomer, a hopper full of all stars, and you shooting 12 (had to round it up) balls a second at 280 fps. Considering all forces of friction and resistance are oblivious, when you pull the trigger, how many balls will be within the first 30 feet of you? I'd say the answer, but you have to solve it first :) (If i knew it)
Oh Intruder dude, I'd take option 2, cause i think you eventually end up with like a billion dollors or sumpin, correct me if i'm wrong.

are they shiny pennies?
Dräko
03-20-2001, 12:43 PM
so who exactly will be giving us these shiny pennies?
simon woodstock
03-20-2001, 06:38 PM
1st of all definately go for the pennies, our math teacher gave us that problem in 5th grade. its exponential growth, the last time you get payed you get $10,737,418.24, and then you also get all the money before added on. i could make a program and figure it out but that would not be worth it, you can already see that the pennies option is better. and yes i can garantee they will be very shiney pennies.

They are the shiniest pennies that have ever been made. Yep, you are right option 2 is the right on, I think you end up with like 20 somethin' million dollars when you added them all up. It doesn't sound right, but it is true.

If you are only 40 feet away then it is impossible for him to be on the trigger for 6 seconds before the first ball hits you. The first ball would reach you in .14 seconds.
Unless this is a trick question!
