tell Me The Best Gun For Tournaments
Counterfeit
02-09-2001, 05:15 PM
There is no best gun for tournies. The best gun is the one that you feel the most comfertible playing with and like the most. it is different for everyone.
For me it is autocockers. For others it is angels, shockers, mags, bushies, timmy's, ect.

The best gun for a tourney is your brain. Use it wisely and a talon will do (not really, but u get the understatement). Practically any reliable semi or electr. gun will do.

i say the gun that you are most comfortable with. If you have a talon and can kick someone's arse with it, who is to say that you can't have it in the tourney right?

WHO THE HECK WOULD USE A TIPPMAN IN A TOURNIE!?!?!?! I MEAN I CAN SEE THE JOKE WITH THE BRASS EAGLE. BUT WHAT KIND OF DRUNKEN MORON USES A TIPPMAN ANY TIPPMAN. PNEUMATIC OR NOT. THERE ARE BETTER DEALS.

Cambridge: Whats wrong with a Tippmann if its a gun you already have and you dont want to buy another. Plus a Tippmann is extremely upgradeable. SO a new barrel, regulator, and some others would make it pretty sweet. Id say its not a bad guns, if its tricked out.

There are much better things you could buy for the money. Yeah it has a lot of upgrades. But so does a spyder. Which is just better overall. The best things for or of the tippman are the durability, but WHO RUNS OVER THEIR GUN or throws it out of a 2 story house. no one in the right mind. to make the gun good it costs around 400 ish. For that price there better guns out there. This is NOT A BYIST message either

It doesnt cost $400 to make a Tippmann good. The gun itself only costs $120. A nice reg will cost you $45-70 and u can get a great barrel for $50. So far, thats less than $250. Add a nice bolt for $30 and ur set. Thats less than $300, and will make it perform a lot better than most $300 stock guns. It doesnt take 8 million upgrades to make a gun great. Oh if u havent caught any of my other comments, it doesnt take a great gun to make a great player, it takes a great strategist and the player itself to be successful in playing paintball.

Well, TL, do you drink beer before the tourney, then when the whistle blows, you run, grab your team's flag and hang on the enemy pole. If so, then yes, you ARE a drunken moron :P

No, a REAL drunk moron would go for the flag and start pole dancing with it. :D
It is always your brain and experiance that count when it comes to playing paintball. Angels and Shockers and Tippmmens and what not don't mean jack crud. The gun will give you somthing maybe to glote about or somthing but you gatta walk the walk when it comes game time. I see alot of people who have it set in their minds that they are good and needed to improve a little bit in a few areas. It all comes down to natural talent and capability. I see alot of players who are at where they are and you can never admit that to yourself so they say the phrase "I'm good now I got that covered but I need to work a little on ______" (all after one day of playing or working on that one skill they have mastered). I would like to shout in their ear with a speaker phone "HELLO! YOU HAVN'T MASTERED ANYTHING!" It takes awhile to get better or to cover a skill. Every time I play I work on somthing new and have a blast while doing it! Like shooting left handed that is mass fun because you catch people offguard and learn its value right off the bat. I would just like to express my feelings as to what players should focus on in this sport if they ever whant to play good in tournies. Its about you and your mind set some have potential some don't so make the best of yourself!

while shooting their gun in the air LOL
I really wish people would stop creating "best gun" threads. All they do is is incite arguments about personal preference, something that you can't debate about.

I totally agree. Im sick of reading posts titled "Mag vs. Cocker" "Spyder vs. Tippmann" or "Pirahna vs. Spyder" To all u newbies, buying your first gun or any gun is all personal preference. All guns have their own pros and cons. Even though BE is labeled crap, if it works for u and ur comfortable with it....USE IT! Here I go again.......ITS NOT THE GUN, ITS THE PLAYER!

you know unless you on a real pro team where they buy all your stuff,or got someone really backing you and supply you with guns, then you play with what you can afford to play with.I have seen alot of guns in tournies, and some arn't top of the line but they hung in there too.So if you thing you got too have the best too be the best wake up and smell the roses man.Theres always going too be someone better out there somewhere with your name on one of his paintballs!

go to a tournament and you will see that the most common guns (in order) are:
Angels
Cockers
Shockers/ BM2K's/ other electros
Mags
at least that's the way it looked this weekend at the Mardi Gras... now that I think about it, the only mag I saw was in the trade show, hmmmm....

Even if there are no " GREAT GUNS", your gun fits your style. Tippmann m98 w/ flatline is good for a back player. Cockers are all around. Angels are good for the trigger- happy person. I, personally don't realy like electros. Electronics, motors, BATTERIES, timing, chopped balls, accessories, cash, cash, cash...
elTwitcho
03-04-2001, 12:01 AM
Timing isnt an issue with most electros. On the majority of electros, it's just entering the proper dwell setting through DIP switches or an LCD, takes maybe 2 minutes. And as for chopped balls, I havent chopped one yet

Like everyone else has been saying, it is almost entirely personal preference and experience. But also you should consider the position you normally play. If you were the front man and you had like a shocker with an 18" Boomstick and no drop forward, that wouldn't do you a lot of good. That is something that is more for a back player who only needs to lay down a butt load of paint. Whichever gun fits your position and your tastes is the best gun for a tourney.

See- that's what I mean. I understood none of the technical stuff. And chopped balls- it was factory timed, set to the rate of feed from the hopper. What gun do you have, and what hopper do you use? Prefference is the 99% of the game. I like bolt through stack, 007 style. My friend likes streamlined, and another likes in- line. We all play in our own styles- but my, uhh, sheer talent, (luck), always puts a splatter on them.

12 volt revvy, and Bob long intimidator. I think the reason i havent chopped yet is the ACE, that thing really does work :)

ha ha ha. I would love to see an extremly modified talon in a tounament. Here is a link to the worlds 1st, and hopefully, only semi- auto Talon. http://www.bithose.com/jakari/talon.html
And you could buy a sniper/cocker conversion kit! Why waste the cash?!?!

Where can i get one of thoses
Jamez Bond

The cocker conversion kit is everywhere. You have to make the rest on the talon. Read throught the Q$A part of the site. I thought it was kool!

Drop forward - 35
Dye Sluminum - 70
20 Oz C02 tank (for those 1000+ paintball tourney games) - 25

I'm gonna have to agree with counterfiet.. what ever gun you like to use is the gun you should you in a tourney. I usey 2000 cocker w/ boomstick, ergo reg, dyna flow air system. I can hit the fly from a horses a$$ with it. But its the player not the gun

I've got and old Sheridan pump rifle with a sawed off stock, mad max style, and a scilencer(inside the plastic shell there is a piece of Donald Duck blanket that works as the sound dampener. They sold these for $20 back in the day). Ahh the good old days....

Has anyone ever used an m98 RT. They are really fun to shoot and fast, and you can get the gun and the RT kit online for like $210 plus shipping. That's about the cost of some spyders. I think you could use one of those in a tourney. (especially a back player)
uhhh from what i've heard the m98 was not made to shoot that fast and ends up acting more like a wagner power painter than a paintball gun
Jamez Bond
06-09-2001, 08:52 AM
Get a powerfeed or a dirct feed, that should bump up the feed rate a few BPS.But they have a lot of kick- and that may make a revolution obsolete. Although- with an RT in it, it would'nt be a bad idea.

I used my Millenium on Saturday with some Amateur NPPL teams practicing. We played on the Sup Airball field. I did really well with a BONE STOCK Mill. I'm definitley gonna be using it in tourneys..until I get an electro. I jus added a PE reg, still waiting for my BigShot.

For all you people who think tippmann's are crap and no one could possibly use them in a tourny... just for a second actually think about this and not be so thickheaded... look at Tippmann Effect . Now i am not sayin they are the greatest team in their division, but they did win the Novice division in the Chicago Open (5 man). So to answer your question, nah you couldn't ever possibly win a tourny with a tippmann, never.. (sarcasm so none of you non thinking people will flame me)
(prices from countypaintball)
-tippmann 98 custom $136
-RT $85
or
-EBOLT $225-Low Pressure Kit $119
-Palmer Stabilizer $88
-Psycho Ballistics DF $22
------
450 - 590
then just add a good hopper, nitro, and a barrel and you have a great setup
and haha you said it had to be 400+ to be a good marker.. and that isn't even with the things mentioned above
and by all means there are many set ups for a tippmanns that make them great, and i am not sayin the tippmanns are the best and cockers, angels, mags, or anything else sucks, i just wanted to get my point across. But the bottom line is to stay with what you are comfortable with and have fun.

Gee...too bad the Tippmann RT trigger isn't tourney legal.....not quit tourney ready if they'll disqualify you for it if you ask me.
dabiglittleman
08-04-2002, 04:43 PM
my understanding is that the rt is legal as long as the rt isn't "fuzzy" just a quick tune to prevent that from happening....
o ya and by the way i said "or ebolt" i didn't say you have to get the rt
