My son is a new paintballer and I was thinking about the kingman spyder t-lx? I can get it in a package deal with V-Force Armor Goggles, 12oz C02 Tank, 200 rd Hopper and Thread Protector for $130.00. Is this a good start for a 13 y.o.? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance...

Yes,
It is a decent purchase, however I would also reccommend som other starting markers:
Kingman Spyder Xtra
Kingman Spyder Victor II
Both as well as the TL-X are semis meaning that your shooting rate will be slower, which is probably decent for a 13 year old.
The two marker suggestion I posted are probably going to be less expensive than the TL-X and have pretty much the same features.
Another suggestion would be a Tippmann 98 Custom. They are durable and don't lose their resale price like the Spyders.

Not only do I consider A5's expensive but I also think much better markers can be had for the same or less price. What you have down sounds great. I have had similar setup for a couple of months now and am planning on savin up and moving on to more pricey range of things.

I would get him a 04 imagine. They're 110 and a lot better. Check them out at www.pbgear.com

Yes Imagine's are nice but if you want a marker that will never let you down , get a 98C. They are very reliable guns and upgradeable too.

Yeah, but... As far as I have seen upgrading tippy's is way more expensive than most spyders cost to upgrade. Plus a spyder would make a good woods or speed ball gun. Where as tippmans are at a slight disadvantage in speed ball due to the fact that they are so long.

That, what you have found, is GREAT for him. You might want to frop a little more money for some gun oil, pods and pod belt, and maybe a jerk squeegie. I would stay away from the 98c as a beginner gun untill he decideds whether or not he will stay a woodsball player (which I imagine is what he will do first) or lean towords the speedball range (where the spyder has clear advantages over the tippman guns).
As a second gun, the A-5 might be a better choice if you realize his playing style is all woods, not speedball.
Anything you get him, aside from a pump or walmart gun, will make him happy. All guns are beginner guns, some just have the ability to handle the skill level of a beginner like your son.
Whatever you get him, be sure you back him 100% in playing paintball. The last thing you need is him to stop playing with it after a month when he only gets to use it once. Take him to a field (buy a cheaper gun to pay for the paint?) and you will find he will grow interest in this as a sport/hobby instead of just a toy to pick up every blue moon to shoot at trashcans. When you see him playing with whatever you get him almost every week, you will feel more confident in your decision and he will also be more greatful for the gift.

for the most part, i believe that tippmanns of any kinds are good for only three kinds of people:
1) people so lazy that they can't even remove a couple screws and lube o-rings on any other blowback.
2) people who think that milsim paintball is cool, which, unless you're a hardcore scenario player, isn't.
3) people who don't know any better.
for the money, tippmann's got nothing on kingman. get a spyder.
