Ok guys, I just finished my reading of Paintball Magazine and in it, there was an article about protecting your barrel from scratches. They said a good way to do this was to place a piece of foam insulating tube (the kind you place on copper pipes to keep them from freezing) over the barrel. I see there point, but wouldn't this affect the barrel accuracy?

I'm assuming they meant while you're not playing, carrying case, etc. OTW, I quess it could work on a barrel with few porting holes, Lapco Bigshot, etc.

I don't see how having a cover on the outside could effect what is happening to a paintball traveling on the inside. Until broken paint is thrown in there shouldn't be a problem.
But yes, they are talking protection when not playing.

The inside of the barrel is what counts, feel free to dent up the outside all you want.

OK the article was in this months issue of a PaintBall Mag. It said a good way to keep the outside of your barrel from getting all dinged up was to place some foam insulating tube on the outside "During" play because that's when you get all the scratches. So the questions remains, can you play "Live" with a foam tube covering your Barrel to protect it?

It depends on the amount of and the size of the porting.

It's still an awful idea. Anyone who can't help themselves from heavily denting a barrel while playing shouldn't be playing at all.
