I have a black spyder compact 2000 with a bottom line and a 16" barrel. I was thinking of spray painting the barrel and/or the bottom line hose and adapter with this 18 karat gold plating stuff I have. I was wondering if you think it would look cool and if it would work.

Well now...you aren't going to do that to your new Boomstick are you? If you insist on doing this then try the following:
Use some steelwool or fine sandpaper to rough up the finish wherever you plan to paint. This will allow the paint to bond to the surface.
Second, get some automotive grade primer and apply a thin coat to one side only and allow to dry in a dust-free place. Repeat the process on the other side.
For the paint, again use one that is for automotive use. You may want to apply two coats. Allow paint to dry between coats. Also, allow any painted surfaces to set. This can take up to a week.
This process is only if you insist on painting your marker. Personally, I wouldn't!

alrite terpsare. i was in da same situation as you a week ago concerning spray paint. i did it.....it looks awesome.....(not as good as anodizing) but......its not worth it. its not a smooth coat, and its not very durable. also.....unless ur a pro at it......i think its a waste of time. i jacked mine up...mine didnt dry yet...so....i picked it up....and there are huge white spots on my gun now cuz i smeared the color and smeared the primner underneat it.....and now i gotta sand da parts again, take out all my parts, tape up my gun, and just spray those parts again. also....ur gun will smell bad forever. even tho its been 3 weeks...and dried (with my screwups on it) it still smells like spray paint!

Spary paint out of the can is not the way too go. Auto paint isn't either unless you use hardner and bake it in a oven.At work i can ,but my wife would shoot my butt:),Aircraft paint is the best too go with. But it a little costly and a anno job be cheaper.

You can adonize at home. Spray paint is'nt made for the Sh** you are going to put your gun through.

i'm anodizing my gun by myself in a couple weeks. I'll tell you how it turned out..and if i don't respond by April 13th, you know that i've either blown up the house, or i'm still working on it.

You should just get it plated in gold. Spray paint comes off when water touches it cuz i was using my friends talon one time and all his paint started coming off. But one of my friends splashed his Mag and it's fine but i dont remember what type of paint it was.

i'd just make sure no spray paint gets INSIDE the barrel, also don't fill in the porting with paint, my guess is it would make the ball go kinda squirly, maybe not though. practice on your stock barrel. and if it looks real uneven, try and make it seem you you meant to do it like that.

If you are going to spray paint your barrel ide doo it this way. first take some 800 grit sand paper and rough up surface your going to paint. then take an air duster and clean it off insides too. then plug the inside with paper towels so its so tight that no paint would be able to drip through the porting or the ends. then put down a layer of primer grey for autos. then let dry in dustles place then when its dryed for say 16 hours sand it so theres no lumps then spray it off with air sprayer. now put on first coat of what ever paint your going to use let it dry then sand it smooth. repeat at least one time. then put on 2 layers of clear coat the same way you did every other coat always use auto paint. word of advice though i don't recomend you do it just cause of the effort it takes to do it that and if you f*ck Up You could potentially trash your barrel for good but if done properly it could look nice. ps if you do do this send me pics
